The Georgetown Hoyas will travel to Wintrust Arena to take on the DePaul Blue Demons this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Georgetown Hoyas won their 2nd straight game and improved to 18-11 (8-8 Big East) on the season after defeating the Seton Hall Pirates, 77-71 in 2OT, this past Saturday. In a game in which both offenses struggled to put up points on the board, the Hoyas were able to pull in the 2nd OT after a Jessie Govan layup gave Georgetown a 75-71 lead with just :20 seconds remaining. Georgetown held Seton Hall to just 36.7% shooting from the field and 17.2% shooting from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Hoyas was Jessie Govan who had a double-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block.
On the season, Georgetown is averaging 80.9 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Hoyas are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 36.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Georgetown has been led by Jessie Govan (18.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.2 bpg), Mac McClung (13.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.1 apg), James Akinjo (12.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 5.3 apg, 1.0 spg), and Josh LeBlanc (9.4 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.1 bpg).
Defensively, Georgetown is allowing their opponents to average 77.5 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Hoyas have a rebound margin of 4.0 and a turnover margin of -1.1.
The DePaul Blue Demons snapped their 4-game losing streak and improved to 14-13 (6-10 Big East) on the season after defeating the St. John’s Red Storm, 92-83, this past Sunday. DePaul trailed by a 42-33 margin at halftime, however, the Blue Demons were unstoppable on the offensive end in the 2nd half and was able to pull away late after taking an 81-77 lead with 2:37 left in regulation. DePaul shot 57.4% from the field and 46.2% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Blue Demons was Max Strus who had 43 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and a block.
On the season, DePaul is averaging 76.0 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field. The Blue Demons are averaging 6.6 three-pointers per game on 34.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, DePaul has been led by Max Strus (18.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.0 spg), Femi Olujobi (13.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg), Eli Cain (12.2 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.2 spg), and Paul Reed (11.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.3 bpg).
Defensively, DePaul is allowing their opponents to average 74.5 ppg on 44.6% shooting from the field. The Blue Demons have a rebound margin of 5.6 and a turnover margin of -1.3.
The Hoyas are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 road games. The Blue Demons are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Georgetown has won 6 of their last 10 games and although their defense currently ranks just T-313th in scoring defense, the Hoyas offense has been solid as they come into this match-up ranked 29th in scoring offense and 10th in assists per game.
DePaul has lost 4 of their last 7 games and currently rank 90th in scoring offense, 64th in FG%, and 252nd in scoring defense.
DePaul has an 11-6 record at home this season and is coming off one of their best offensive performances of the season against the Red Storm, however, the Blue Demons did struggled defensively against Georgetown in their first match-up and lost to the Hoyas by an 82-73 margin just over a week ago. Georgetown has an explosive offense that should be able to put points up on the board against the Blue Demons and as the Hoyas can’t afford a loss to DePaul when it comes to their at-large NCAA chances, I think Georgetown will do enough in this one to get the win. Good Luck!
