DePaul Blue Demons -1 -- Over/Under: 144
The Providence Friars will travel to Wintrust Arena to take on DePaul Blue Demons this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Providence Friars had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 13-8 (3-5 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the Seton Hall Pirates, 65-63, this past Wednesday. Providence struggled offensively against the Pirates and couldn’t fight back later after a Myles Powell dunk for the Pirates gave Seton Hall a 65-61 lead with 1:47 left in regulation. Providence shot just 38.2% from the field and 31.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Friars was Alpha Diallo who had 21 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
On the season, Providence is averaging 73.0 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field. The Friars are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 34.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Providence has been led by Alpha Diallo (17.2 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.9 spg), A.J. Reeves (12.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.2 spg), Nate Watson (11.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg), and Isaiah Jackson (9.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.3 spg).
Defensively, Providence is allowing their opponents to average 69.2 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field. The Friars have a rebound margin of 2.0 and a turnover margin of 1.7.
The DePaul Blue Demons lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 11-9 (3-6 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the 14th ranked Villanova Wildcats, 86-74, this past Wednesday. DePaul didn’t have many answers on the defensive end against the Wildcats and couldn’t fight back after Villanova took a 70-55 lead with 8:42 left in regulation. DePaul’s defense allowed Villanova to shoot 47.0% from the field, 42.9% from beyond the arc, and force just 3 Wildcats turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Blue Demons was Femi Olujobi who had 20 points & 8 rebounds.
On the season, DePaul is averaging 76.5 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Blue Demons are averaging 6.5 three-pointers per game on 32.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, DePaul has been led by Max Strus (17.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.1 spg), Femi Olujobi (13.3 ppg, 5.6 rpg), Eli Cain (12.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.3 spg), and Paul Reed (11.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.2 bpg).
Defensively, DePaul is allowing their opponents to average 73.4 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The Blue Demons have a rebound margin of 5.8 and a turnover margin of -0.6.
The Friars are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games, however, are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win. The Blue Demons are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a double-digit loss at home.
Providence has won 3 of their last 5 games and come into this game ranked 186th in scoring offense, 121st in scoring defense and T-94th in turnover margin. DePaul has lost 4 of their last 5 games and although they have a solid offense that ranks 103rd in scoring offense & 73rd in FG%, the Blue Demons have struggled a bit defensively as they currently rank just 233rd in scoring defense.
Providence was able to defeat DePaul by a 70-67 margin at home a few weeks ago, however, I think the Friars are going to have a much harder time slowing down the DePaul offense on the road. DePaul is 9-3 at home this season and as I think the Blue Demons will have an advantage on both the offensive end and the boards, I’m taking DePaul to cover this small spread at home.
