The UIC Flames will travel to Calihan Hall to take on the Detroit Mercy Titans this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The UIC Flames dropped to 15-15 (9-8 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, 86-72, this past Thursday. UIC struggled with turnovers agianst the Oakland defense and couldn’t fight back after the Golden Grizzlies took a 75-57 lead with 5:26 left in regulation. UIC shot just 42.6% from the field and committed 20 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Flames was Godwin Boahen who had 20 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 block, and 4 steals.

On the season, UIC is averaging 74.5 ppg on 45.9% shooting from the field. The Flames are averaging 9.4 three-pointers per game on 35.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UIC has been led by Marcus Ottey (15.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.1 spg), Tarkus Ferguson (15.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 5.2 apg, 1.5 spg), Godwin Boahen (14.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.2 spg), and Jordan Blount (9.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.3 spg).

Defensively, UIC is allowing their opponents to average 74.4 ppg on 41.8% shooting from the field. The Flames have a rebound margin of -2.5 and a turnover margin of -1.4.

The Detroit Mercy Titans improved to 11-18 (8-9 Horizon) on the season after defeating the IUPUI Jaguars, 87-85, this past Thursday night. Detroit Mercy led by a 43-36 margin at halftime and was able to seal the game late after a Derrien King free-throw gave the Titans a two-possession lead with just :06 seconds left in regulation. Detroit Mercy shot 50.0% from the field and committed just 8 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Titans was Josh McFolley who had 23 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.

On the season, Detroit Mercy is averaging 73.1 ppg on 41.8% shooting from the field. The Titans are averaging 9.4 three-pointers per game on 35.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Detroit Mercy has been led by Antoine Davis (26.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.5 apg), Josh McFolley (13.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.8 spg), Derrien King (8.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.2 apg), and Harrison Curry (8.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg).

Defensively, Detroit Mercy is allowing their opponents to average 78.8 ppg on 47.2% shooting from the field. The Titans have a rebound margin of -6.1 and a turnover margin of 2.6.

The Flames are 21-7 ATS in their last 28 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400, however, are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Titans are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games, however, just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.

UIC has lost 3 of their last 4 games and come into this game ranked 132nd in scoring offense, 99th in FG%, and T-249th in scoring defense.

Detroit Mercy has lost 5 of their last 7 games and although heir offense has been decent, especially from beyond the arc as they rank 37th in three-pointers made per game, the Titans have struggled defensively as they rank just 331st in scoring defense & 332nd in defensive FG%.

Detroit Mercy has played well in conference play this season and although their defense can struggle, their offense can put up points in a hurry as the Titans have had decent success from beyond the arc this season. UIC is just 3-11 on the road this season and as I haven’t been overly impressed by their defense as of late, I think the Titans will be able to pick up this win and cover this pick-em. Good Luck!
