The Evansville Purple Aces and the Drake Bulldogs meet in college basketball action from Knapp Center on Sunday.
Evansville comes in here at 9-17 on the year. The Aces are on a 13-game losing streak right now, and they’ve fallen to Valparaiso, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Southern IL, Bradley and Loyola IL in their last six.
In the loss to the Ramblers, Evansville’s lead scorer was KJ Riley with 28 points, five rebounds and six assists. Also in double-digits there was Sam Cunliffe with 16 points, four rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Drake side, they’re 16-10 on the season. The Bulldogs are just 1-4 in the last five, beating Bradley and falling to Missouri State, Indiana State, Southern IL, Northern Iowa and Missouri State otherwise.
In the loss to the Bears, Drake’s Noah Thomas led the team on 14 points with four assists. DJ Wilkins added 13 points with three assists and two rebounds, and Jonah Jackson had 10 points with two boards.
Drake is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five Sunday games and 19-7 ATS in their last 26 after a straight-up loss. The Bulldogs are 37-14-2 ATS in the last 53 home games and the under is 4-1 in the last five Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Aces are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Sunday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games. Evansville is 3-9-1 ATS in the last 13 overall and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 after an ATS win.
Evansville showed a little spark earlier in the year, but over this lengthy losing streak they’ve been pretty darn ineffective at most things despite a few of those outings being close. The last time the Aces were over 70 points was way back on January 4.
As for Drake, they’ve been pretty hit and miss lately, especially on defense. That said, the Bulldogs won 73-50 on the road the last time these teams met up, so I don’t think they’ll have trouble here. I’m going Drake.
