The Indiana State Sycamores will travel to The Knapp Center to take on the Drake Bulldogs this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Indiana State Sycamores dropped to 14-14 (6-10 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Missouri State Bears, 67-61, this past Saturday. Indiana State made a charge at the end of the game to make the score respectable, however, the Sycamores never really stood a change to pick up the win after falling behind by a 47-31 margin midway through the 2nd half. Indiana State shot just 12.5% from beyond the arc while allowing Missouri State to shoot 47.8% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Sycamores was Tyreke Key who had 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.
On the season, Indiana State is averaging 69.7 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field. The Sycamores are averaging 5.7 three-pointers per game on 36.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Indiana State has been led by Tyreke Key (17.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Jordan Barnes (14.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.2 spg), Christian Williams (8.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.4 spg), and Cooper Neese (7.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.1 apg).
Defensively, Indiana State is allowing their opponents to average 71.7 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Sycamores have a rebound margin of -1.6 and a turnover margin of 0.4.
The Drake Bulldogs had their 4-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 21-8 (10-6 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Illinois State Redbirds, 67-60, this past Sunday. Drake was able to fight back from a 33-24 halftime deficit to make it a game late, however, couldn’t secure the road win after allowing Illinois State to close out the final 2:02 of regulation on a 9-1 run. Drake shot 43.1% from the field and 26.3% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Nick McGlynn who had 18 points, 9 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Drake is averaging 75.9 ppg on 46.9% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 36.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Drake has been led by Nick McGlynn (15.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.6 bpg), Nick Norton (14.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 5.9 apg, 1.2 spg), Brady Ellingson (12.0 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.7 apg), and D.J. Wilkins (11.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.9 apg). Drake will be without Nick Norton who was lost for the season due to a knee injury suffered in early January.
Defensively, Drake is allowing their opponents to average 70.9 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 1.8 and a turnover margin of -1.0.
The Sycamores are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games, however, are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS win. The Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss and 21-6-2 ATS in their last 29 home games.
Indiana State has lost 8 of their last 12 games and currently rank just 265th in scoring offense, 189th in scoring defense, and 261st in defensive FG%.
Drake has won 9 of their last 12 games and have been led by their offense this year that comes into this match-up ranked 96th in scoring offense, 58th in FG%, and 95th in 3P-FG%.
It’s been a tough season for Indiana State as although they have picked up some decent victories, the Sycamores have really struggled in MVC play. Drake suffered a big blow when Nick Norton went down with injury, however, the Bulldogs have still be quite impressive and has to be considered one of the favorites to win the MVC this season behind an offense that can really put up points in a hurry. Indiana State is only 4-8 on the road this season and as the Bulldogs have consistently been solid ATS at home, which includes a 9-2-1 record this season, I think Drake does enough in this one to cover this spread. Good Luck!
