The Southern Illinois Salukis will travel to The Knapp Center to take on the Drake Bulldogs this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.

The Southern Illinois Salukis won their 2nd straight game and improved to 9-6 (2-0 MVC) on the season after defeating the Northern Iowa Panthers, 58-51, this past Saturday. Southern Illinois was outstanding on the defensive end and pulled away later after a 6-0 Salukis run gave Southern Illinois a 56-49 lead with just :19 seconds left in regulation. Southern Illinois shot 45.0% from the field while holding the Panthers to just 31.5% from the field & 26.5% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Salukis was Kavion Pippen who had 18 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block, and a steal.

On the season, Southern Illinois is averaging 69.5 ppg on 47.3% shooting from the field. The Salukis are averaging 7.1 three-pointers per game on 38.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Southern Illinois has been led by Armon Fletcher (13.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.3 spg), Sean Lloyd Jr. (11.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.9 apg), Kavion Pippen (11.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.4 bpg), and Aaron Cook (11.5 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.1 spg). The Salukis should have Armon Fletcher back after he has missed the last 6 games due to a suspension.

Defensively, Southern Illinois is holding their opponents to an average of 67.5 ppg on 41.0% shooting from the field. The Salukis have a rebound margin of 0.6 and a turnover margin of -2.5.

The Drake Bulldogs lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 11-4 (0-2 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Loyola Chicago Ramblers, 85-74, this past Saturday. Drake led by a 16-point margin early in the 1st half, however, had no answers for the Ramblers offense the rest of the way and couldn’t fight back after Loyola-Chicago took a 62-47 lead with 13:23 left in regulation. Drake allowed Loyola-Chicago to shoot 63.3% from the field & 50.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Nick McGlynn who had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and a steal.

On the season, Drake is averaging 80.7 ppg on 47.8% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 9.4 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Drake has been led by Nick McGlynn (16.3 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.0 apg), Nick Norton (14.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 5.9 apg, 1.2 spg), D.J. Wilkins (10.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.9 apg), and Brady Ellingson (10.1 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.5 apg).

Defensively, Drake is allowing their opponents to average 74.1 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 0.7 and a turnover margin of 0.1.

The Salukis are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Bulldogs are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 22-8-1 ATS in their last 31 home games.

Southern Illinois has won 7 of their last 10 games and come into this game ranked T-89th in scoring defense, 82nd in defensive FG%, and 70th in FG%. Drake has lost their last two games, however, this is still a very good team that is led by their offense that ranks 48th in scoring offense & 56th in FG%.

Drake has a solid offense, but I think the Bulldogs are going to have a hard time against a Salukis defense that should have Armon Fletcher back. The Salukis are efficient on the offense end and as I think they’ll have some success against Drake’s T-240th ranked scoring defense, I’m taking Southern Illinois and the points in this one.

Southern Illinois Salukis +1.5
