The SIU-Edwardsville Cougars will travel to The Knapp Center to take on the Drake Bulldogs this Monday night in College Basketball action.

The SIU-Edwardsville Cougars snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 2-5 on the season after defeating the NAIA Harris Stowe Hornets, 92-87, on December 8th. SIU-Edwardsville had all they could handle from the Hornets and didn’t pull away until a 6-0 Cougars run gave SIU-Edwardsville an 86-80 lead with 1:04 left in regulation. SIU-Edwardsville shot 42.6% from the field and outrebounded Harris Stowe by a 41-33 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Cougars was Brandon Jackson who had a double-double with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and an assist.

The SIU-Edwardsville Cougars are averaging 72.6 ppg on 41.8% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 5.6 three-pointers per game on 25.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, SIU-Edwardsville has been led by Tyresse Williford (14.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.3 apg), Brandon Jackson (13.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg), David McFarland (13.0 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.1 spg), and Cameron Williams (8.9 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.3 spg).

Defensively, SIU-Edwardsville is allowing their opponents to average 80.4 ppg on 51.7% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of -1.0 and a turnover margin of 3.1.

The Drake Bulldogs has their 5-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 6-2 on the season after being defeated by the Iowa State Cyclones, 77-68, this past Saturday. Drake held a 63-58 lead with just 7:12 left in regulation, however, the offensive struggled the rest of way and couldn’t fight back after a 12-0 Iowa State run gave the Cyclones a 70-63 lead with 3:06 left in regulation. Drake shot 49.2% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Nick Norton who had a double-double with 11 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, and a steal.

On the season, Drake is averaging 80.4 ppg on 46.9% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 9.6 three-pointers per game on 34.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Drake has been led by Nick McGlynn (15.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.4 bpg), Nick Norton (14.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 6.8 apg, 1.1 spg), D.J. Wilkins (9.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.4 apg), and Brady Ellingson (9.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.4 apg).

Defensively, Drake is allowing their opponents to average 72.4 ppg on 41.0% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 0.6 and a turnover margin of 0.6.

The Cougars are 5-13-1 ATS in their last 19 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. MVC opponents. The Bulldogs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

It’s been a tough season for SIU-Edwardsville as they Cougars have really struggled defensively this season as they come into this game ranked 321st in scoring defense & 349th in defensive FG%. Drake is going to be competitive in the MVC this season as although their defense can give up some points, they have a solid offense that ranks 69th in scoring offense and 42nd in three-pointers made per game. Drake gave a very good Iowa State team a run for their money and as the Bulldogs have looked good in their 3 games at home this season (3-0), I’m taking Drake to cover this large spread.

Pick:
Drake Bulldogs -13.5
