The North Dakota St Bison and Duke Blue Devils meet Friday in the first round of the college basketball NCAA Tournament at the Colonial Life Arena.
The North Dakota St Bison look for another victory after beating North Carolina Central on Wednesday. The North Dakota St Bison are averaging 73.2 points on 45.6 percent shooting and allowing 72.2 points on 46.1 percent shooting. Vinnie Shahid is averaging 12.8 points and three rebounds while Tyson Ward is averaging 12.3 points and 2.3 assists. Deng Geu is grabbing five rebounds and Rocky Kreuser is grabbing 3.7 rebounds. The North Dakota St Bison are shooting 36.6 percent from beyond the arc and 77.4 percent from the free throw line. The North Dakota St Bison are allowing 35.8 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 31.6 rebounds per game. The North Dakota St Bison have won each of their last five non-home games.
The Duke Blue Devils have won five of their last six games and are fresh off an ACC title. The Duke Blue Devils are averaging 83.5 points on 47.7 percent shooting and allowing 67.6 points on 39.5 percent shooting. RJ Barrett is averaging 22.9 points and 7.5 rebounds while Zion Williamson is averaging 22.1 points and 2.1 assists. Cam Reddish is the third double-digit scorer and Tre Jones is dishing 5.3 assists. The Duke Blue Devils are shooting 30.2 percent from beyond the arc and 69 percent from the free throw line. The Duke Blue Devils are allowing 29.3 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 41.8 rebounds per game. The Duke Blue Devils have won six of their last eight non-home games.
The Bison are 10-27-1 ATS in their last 38 non-conference games, 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a straight up win and 16-7 ATS in their last 23 Friday games. The Blue Devils are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games, 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The under is 35-16-2 in Blue Devils last 53 overall. The over is 14-6 in Bison last 20 overall.
The North Dakota St Bison don't have great defensive numbers this season and that says a lot given their lack of competition. North Dakota State played Gonzaga earlier in the year and lost by 42 points and the game against Iowa State resulted in a 22-point loss. The North Dakota St Bison don't play above-average teams often and they've looked awful when they have had those rare meetings. The Duke Blue Devils do have depth issues and I'm not as high on them as others seem to be, but the NBA talent is there and a team this top heavy in elite talent should mop the floor with the Bison. I haven't had a ton of luck laying big numbers with Duke this season, but there's a clear talent gap in this contest. This should be an old school No. 1 vs. No. 16 seed where the game is over about 15 minutes in. However, there are much better options on the board in the first round.
