The Eastern Kentucky Colonels and the Duquesne Dukes meet in college basketball action from the A.J. Palumbo Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels will look to bounce back from a 95-77 loss to Xavier in their last outing. Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 25 points on 9 of 13 shooting with 4 threes, 6 rebounds and 5 steals while Jomaru Brown added 17 points and 5 assists and Dujuanta Weaver added 15 points with 5 threes to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for EKU in the loss. Lachlan Anderson added 6 points and a team-high 7 rebounds while Jacquess Hobbs added a team-high 6 assists and 3 steals in the losing effort as well. Mayo leads the Colonels with an average of 24.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while Kelvin Robinson leads Eastern Kentucky in assists with 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 80.6 points per game on 40% shooting from the field, 30.8% from behind the arc and 68.5% from the foul line this season.
The Duquesne Dukes will also be looking to rebound after falling to Penn State in their last outing by a final score of 73-67. Eric Williams Jr. led the Dukes with 21 points on 5 of 8 shooting with 3 triples and a perfect 8 of 8 mark from the foul line along with a team-high 7 rebounds. Sincere Carry came 2nd with 15 points along with 6 rebounds and team-highs of 6 assists and 6 steals while Michael Hughes chipped in 10 points with an 8 of 8 mark from the foul line of his own to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Duquesne in the losing effort. Marcus Weathers added 7 boards of his own as well in the defeat. Williams Jr. leads the Dukes with an average of 13.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while Carry leads Duquesne in assists with 6.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Duquesne is averaging 74.4 points per game on 43.1% shooting from the field, 33.2% from behind the 3-point line and 72.2% from the foul line this season.
Eastern Kentucky is 9-2-2 ATS in their last 13 road games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against the A-10 while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Duquesne is 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 11-5 in their last 16 home games.
You could argue that Duquesne has played a slightly tougher schedule and that the Dukes deserve to be the favorite here. However, Eastern Kentucky is also battle tested, playing teams like Xavier and Tennessee on the road with a win over Northern Kentucky under their belts as well. The Colonels are also the better team offensively, so if Eastern Kentucky can keep pace, I like their chances in this one so I’ll take the Colonels and the points in this one.
