The George Washington Colonials and the Duquesne Dukes meet in A-10 college basketball action from the PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday night.
The George Washington Colonials will try to take a step up in the A-10 standings, sitting at 5-7 in conference play after a 73-67 win over George Mason last time out. Armel Potter leads the Colonials in scoring and assists with 14.7 points and 5.6 assists per game while Jamison Battle is 2nd in scoring and tops in rebounding with 12.2 PPG and 5.3 RPG this season. Maceo Jack and Jameer Nelson Jr. are each averaging double-digit scoring outputs this season. As a team, George Washington is averaging 67.1 points on 42.5% shooting from the field, 32.4% from behind the arc and 72.5% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 69.8 points on 44.7% shooting from the field and 30.8% from 3-point range this season. George Washington is 2-7 straight up and 4-5 against the spread on the road this season.
The Duquesne Dukes will try to crack the top 4 in the A-10, sitting at 8-4 following a 59-54 win over Fordham last time out. Marcus Weathers leads the Dukes in scoring and rebounding with 14.5 PPG and 8 RPG while Sincere Carry is 2nd in scoring and tops in assists with 11.4 PPG and 5 APG this season. Tavian Dunn-Martin is also contributing 10 PPG for the Dukes this season. As a team, Duquesne is averaging 71 points on 44.3% shooting from the field, 32.1% from behind the arc and 74% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 64.1 points on 41.2% shooting from the field and 30.3% from behind the 3-point line this season. Duquesne is 9-2 straight up and 6-5 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the favorite is 11-5 ATS in the last 16 meetings between these two teams.
I’m tempted by the points with the Colonials as the Dukes have struggled against the number lately, but the fact here is that George Washington has been beaten up in their last coupld of games, and a road win over George Mason doesn’t do a whole lot for me in the grand scheme of things when Duquesne has been better for much of the season. The Colonials are being outscored by 13.8 points per game across their last five games and that includes a pair of 20+ point losses to St. Bonaventure and Richmond on the road. I just think the Dukes are the better team here, and while they haven’t been great against the number, I expect a win and cover from Duquesne in this one.
