The Line: Duquesne Dukes +1.5 -- Over/Under:
Over at Palumbo Center on Saturday, the La Salle Explorers and the Duquesne Dukes will be meeting up in college basketball action.
La Salle is entering this one with a 7-10 record overall. The Explorers have lost their last three games, most recently falling to UMass on Wednesday. In that one, La Salle’s Pookie Powell put up 30 points.
La Salle’s top scorer this season is BJ Johnson with 21.2 PPG and 8.9 RPG, while Powell has 18.7 PPG, 4.1 RPG and 3.2 APG. The only other Explorers player in double-figures is Isiah Deas with 10.5 PPG.
Over on the Duquesne side, they’re sitting at 12-5 on the season. The Dukes had a three-game winning streak going but fell in their last appearance to VCU. In that VCU game, Duquesne guard Mike Lewis put up 23 points.
Lewis leads the Dukes with 15.6 PPG this year, and Eric Williams is second on 14.4 PPG and 9.5 RPG. Also in the double-digit club for Duquesne are Rene Castro-Caneddy (13.4 PPG) and Tarin Smith (12.0 PPG).
La Salle is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games and 4-10 ATS in the last 14 overall. The Explorers are also 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.
Meanwhile, Duquesne is 3-7 ATS in the last 10 Saturday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five following a straight-up loss. The under is 7-0 in the Dukes’ last seven overall and 4-0 in their last four Saturday games.
On the whole, La Salle has been hanging around in games—despite the occasional blowout. The Explorers have been playing better than their record indicates, though. As for Duquesne, they lost by 11 to VCU, but to their credit VCU has been playing very well. All things considered, I like the Dukes to manage a cover here.
