The Marshall Thundering Herd and the Duquesne Dukes meet in college basketball action from the A.J. Palumbo Center on Wednesday night.
The Marshall Thundering Herd come into this game looking to rebound after a 101-84 loss to Ohio in their last outing. Jon Elmore led the Herd with 26 points on 10 of 22 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 5 assists while C.J. Burks added 22 points as the only other Marshall player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Jannson Williams chipped in 8 points, 3 steals and a pair of blocks as well in the defeat. Elmore leads Marshall with an average of 21.4 points and 5.3 assists per game while Rondale Watson leads the Herd on the glass with 5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Marshall is averaging 87 points per game on 46.1% shooting from the field, 34% from behind the arc and 66.4% from the foul line this season.
The Duquesne Dukes will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games, including a 74-53 loss to Pitt in their last outing. Michael Hughes led the Dukes with 20 points on 9 of 11 shooting with a game-high 10 rebounds as the only Duquesne player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Eric Williams Jr. added 2 threes for 9 points and Tavian Dunn-Martin added 7 points and a team-high 5 assists in the loss for the Dukes. Williams Jr. leads the Dukes with an average of 14.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while Sincere Carry leads Duquesne in assists with 5.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Duquesne is averaging 72.3 points per game on 42.4% shooting from the field, 33.1% from behind the arc and 66.7% from the foul line this season.
Marshall is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against the A-10 while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Duquesne is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a loss while the under is 20-7-1 in their last 28 non-conference games.
I missed on Marshall against Ohio, as the Herd simply couldn’t stop the Bobcats and didn’t get much support outside of Elmore and Burks. However, Duquesne has had issues with consistency all season long and have had issues covering this season, while Marshall has been a solid play ATS dating back to last season. I’ll lay the points with Marshall here as I just don’t trust Duquesne yet.
