The UMass Minutemen and the Duquesne Dukes meet in A-10 college basketball action from the A.J. Palumbo Center on Saturday afternoon.

The UMass Minutemen will look to rebound after a 72-48 loss to Dayton in their last outing. Jonathan Laurent led the Minutemen with 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting as the only UMass player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Randall West had a team-high 6 rebounds while Carl Pierre chipped in 7 points and a team-high 3 assists. Despite the off-night, Pierre still leads UMass in scoring with 11.6 points per game while Luwane Pipkins leads the Minutemen in assists with 5.3 assists per game and Rashaan Holloway leads UMass in rebounding with 5.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UMass is averaging 70.1 points per game on 43.9% shooting from the field, 34.7% from behind the 3-point line and 68.9% from the foul line this season.

The Duquesne Dukes will also be looking for a bounce back performance after a 68-47 loss to St. Bonaventure in their last outing. Lamar Norman Jr. led the Dukes with 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 4 threes and 4 steals as the only Duquesne player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Eric Williams Jr. added 5 points with a pair of steals while Michael Hughes had 8 points and Marcus Weathers grabbed a team-high 5 rebounds. Williams Jr. still leads Duquesne with an average of 12.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while Sincere Carry leads the Dukes in assists with 5.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Duquesne is averaging 73 points per game on 42.5%. shooting from the field, 31.6% from behind the arc and 70% from the foul line this season.

UMass is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Saturday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record. Duquesne is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. The home team is 5-2-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.

Both of these teams struggled to put forth offense in their last outing, but the difference for me is that Duquesne has been one of the more underrated and trustworthy teams in the A-10 this season. UMass has done a good job following up big home losses next time out, but I just can’t see it here so I’ll lay the points with Duquesne in this one.

Pick:
Duquesne -6.5
