The Line: East Carolina Pirates +7 -- Over/Under:
Out at Minges Coliseum on Wednesday, the SMU Mustangs and the East Carolina Pirates will be meeting up on the college basketball court.
SMU enters this game with a 15-12 record overall. The Mustangs have lost their last five games in a row, most recently to UCF on Saturday. In that one, SMU guard Ben Emelogu put up 12 points.
Shake Milton is the top scorer for SMU this season on 18.0 PPG and 4.4 APG, and Jamal McMurray has 13.5 PPG. Also in double-figures for the Mustangs are Jarrey Foster (13.2 PPG), Jimmy Whitt (10.7 PPG) and Emelogu (10.1 PPG).
As for East Carolina, they’re sitting at 10-15 on the year. The Pirates have lost two of the last three games, dropping one to Connecticut on Sunday. In that game, East Carolina guard Shawn Williams put up 26 points.
BJ Tyson leads the Pirates with 14.8 PPG and 4.3 RPG this year. Also in double-figures for East Carolina are Isaac Fleming (12.5 PPG; 5.0 APG), Kentrell Barkley (12.5 PPG; 7.5 RPG) and Williams (12.2 PPG).
SMU is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS loss and 1-5 ATS in their last six Wednesday games. The Mustangs are also 0-3-1 ATS in their last four road games and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games. East Carolina is also 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five versus the AAC.
SMU has a good offense, so it’s a little puzzling to see them struggle lately. The Mustangs haven’t topped 67 points in any of their last five games, and put up just 37 versus UCF. The last time these two teams met, SMU logged an 86-61 win, but I think East Carolina can sneak in and cover here.
