The Furman Paladins and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers meet in college basketball action from Freedom Hall Civic Center on Wednesday.
Furman currently sits at 22-5 on the year. The Paladins have won their last seven straight, taking out Samford, the Citadel, VMI, Mercer, WCU, Samford and Chattanooga in succession.
In the win over the Mocs, Furman’s Noah Gurley led the team on 14 points and six assists. Jalen Slawson added 13 points with two boards there, and Mike Bothwell had 12 points, four assists and three rebounds.
Over on the East Tennessee State side, they’re 23-4 this year. The Buccaneers are riding a five-game win streak, beating UNCG, Chattanooga, Mercer, the Citadel and VMI in that time.
In the win over the Keydets, East Tennessee State’s Daivien Williamson led the way on 20 points and five rebounds. Both Tray Boyd and Patrick Good added 14 points apiece there, with a combined six assists and five rebounds.
The home team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings between these teams and Furman is 48-31 ATS in all games over the last three seasons. The Paladins are 19-8 ATS in road games over the last two seasons and 22-12 ATS versus conference opponents in the last two seasons.
The Paladins are 23-10 ATS after a conference game in the last two seasons and 17-8 ATS off a win over a conference rival in the last two seasons. East Tennessee State is 3-3 ATS against Furman and 3-3 straight up against Furman in the last three seasons.
Furman cut it a little close in the last outing, getting by a good Chattanooga team by a relatively slim 58-53 margin. Outside of that and a two-point VMI game, the Paladins haven’t really had issues with anyone during this win streak.
That could change here, as East Tennessee State has been playing really good ball over their last five. Furman took a 65-56 home win the last time these teams met, but I think this one will be much closer. I’m going ETSU on the cover.
