The Mercer Bears snapped a 4-game losing streak and improved to 9-16 (4-9 Southern) on the season after defeating the Western Carolina Catamounts, 74-65, this past Thursday. Mercer was solid on both ends of the court agianst the Catamounts and didn’t have much trouble picking up the much-needed road victory after entering halftime with a 40-25 lead. Mercer shot 50.9% from the field and forced the Catamounts into committing 19 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Bears was Ross Cummings who had 18 points, 7 rebounds, and an assist.

The East Tennessee State Buccaneers snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 20-7 (10-4 Southern) on the season after defeating The Citadel Bulldogs, 91-83, this past Thursday. East Tennessee State had all they could handle from The Citadel, however, was outstanding offensively in the 2nd half and was able to pull away later with solid FT-shooting as the Buccaneers hit 8 consecutive FT’s to close out the game. East Tennessee State shot 53.3% from the field and outrebounded The Citadel by a 40-24 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Buccaneers was Isaiah Tisdale who had 29 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal.

Mercer has lost 6 of their last 9 games and currently rank 147th in scoring offense, 184th in scoring defense, and 171st in defensive FG%.
East Tennessee State has won 4 of their last 6 games and currently rank 39th in scoring offense, 25th in FG%, and 103rd in scoring defense.
Mercer lost to East Tennessee State by a 72-68 margin in OT at home earlier this season and it’s hard to imagine that the Bears will be able to put up much of a fight on the road as they come into this game with just a 2-10 record in away games. East Tennessee State is solid on both ends of the court and as I think their offense will be able to have success against the Mercer defense, I’m taking the Buccaneers to cover this double-digit home spread. Good Luck!
