The Wofford Terriers and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers meet in SoCon college basketball action from the Freedom Hall Civic Center on Thursday night.
The Wofford Terriers will look to build on their current 10-game winning streak after a 99-61 rout on the road over the Citadel. Fletcher Magee led the Terriers with 20 points on 4 of 7 shooting from behind the arc with an 8 of 8 mark from the foul line while Tray Hollowell added 13 points with 4 triples as well. Magee leads Wofford in scoring with 19 points per game while Murphy leads the Terriers in assists with 3.2 assists per game and Cameron Jackson leads the Terriers in rebounding with 7.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Wofford is averaging 83.3 points per game on 48.9% shooting from the field, 41% from 3-point range, which is the 6th-best 3-point percentage in the country, and 70.5% from the foul line this season.
The East Tennessee State Buccaneers come into this game looking to add to their current 3-game winning streak after a 77-64 win over Chattanooga in their last outing. Lucas N’Guessan led the Bucs with 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting while Patrick Good and Bo Hodges each had 13 points with Good adding a pair of threes and a 7 of 7 mark from the foul line with 4 assists while Hodges shot 6 of 8 with team-highs of 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Tray Boyd III added 10 points to finish off the scoring in double-digits for East Tennessee State in the winning effort. Good leads the Buccaneers in scoring with 12 points per game while Isaiah Tisdale leads the Buccaneers in assists with 3.3 helpers per game and Jeromy Rodriguez leads East Tennessee State in rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 11.5 points to go along with his team-leading 11.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, East Tennessee State is averaging 80.1 points per game on 48.5% shooting from the field, 36.2% from behind the 3-point line and 67% from the foul line this season.
Wofford is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 9-4 in their last 13 games overall. East Tennessee State is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games and 34-15-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 conference games. Wofford is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
You have to think that revenge would be on East Tennessee’s mind after Wofford beat the Buccaneers at home earlier this season. However, while ETSU is solid at home, I would feel foolish leaving a free bucket on the table with Wofford here. The Terriers are the much hotter team coming into this game, have had success in the past against the Buccaneers ATS, and already silenced one of the best teams in the conference on the road, going to UNC-Greensboro and holding the Spartans to 43 points in a 29-point blowout win. This is a tough game to call, but I think the free points with Wofford hold some value here.
