The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons improved to 4-4 on the season after defeating the Cleveland State Vikings, 82-79, this past Sunday. Purdue Fort Wayne allowed Cleveland State to fight back from a 72-60 deficit with just 6:12 left in regulation to tie it at 79-all late, however, the Mastodons were able to pull out the victory in dramatic fashion after Matt Holba hit a game-winning three-pointers with just 0.7 seconds left in regulation. Purdue Fort Wayne shot 45.7% from the field and won the turnover battle by a 19-10 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Mastodons was Matt Holba who had 21 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.

Defensively, Purdue Fort Wayne is allowing their opponents to average 78.9 ppg on 47.6% shooting from the field. The Mastodons have a rebound margin of -4.6 and a turnover margin of 4.6.
The Eastern Illinois Panthers had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 3-3 on the season after being defeated by the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 82-65, this past Sunday. Eastern Illinois had no answers for the UNC Wilmington offense and couldn’t fight back after they went into halftime trailing by a 45-32 margin. Eastern Illinois shot 43.9% from the field while allowing UNC Wilmington to shoot 55.9% from the field and 52.4% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Panthers was Josiah Wallace who had 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

The Mastodons are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. OVC opponents however, are just 17-35-1 ATS in their last 53 games overall. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Purdue Fort Wayne hasn’t lost their scoring punch, even if they no longer have Bryson Scott, as the Mastodons currently rank 66th in scoring offense, however, defense looks like it could be a problem for Purdue Fort Wayne this season as they currently rank just 303rd in scoring defense and 318th in defensive FG%. Eastern Illinois certainly doesn’t blow you away when looking at their statistics however, outside of their recent loss against UNC Wilmington, the Panthers have been a competitive team this season, even giving Texas more of a challenge than they expected in their season opener. Purdue Fort Wayne hasn’t been a solid road team in past years and as I think Eastern Illinois offense will have success at home agianst the Mastodons defense, I’m taking Eastern Illinois to cover in this pick-em.
