The Austin Peay Governors will travel to McBrayer Arena to take on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Austin Peay Governors won their 3rd straight game and improved to 21-8 (13-3 OVC) on the season after defeating the UT-Martin Skyhawks, 92-78, this past Saturday. Austin Peay trailed by a 42-40 margin at halftime, however, the Governors were outstanding offensively in the 2nd half and pulled away after taking a 75-63 lead with 5:31 left in regulation. Austin Peay shot 47.8% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Governors was Terry Taylor who had a double-double with 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists.
On the season, Austin Peay is averaging 82.3 ppg on 47.8% shooting from the field. The Governors are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 38.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Austin Peay has been led by Terry Taylor (20.0 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.1 spg), Chris Porter-Bunton (13.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.5 spg), Steve Harris (10.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.8 apg), and Zach Glotta (9.2 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Austin Peay is allowing their opponents to average 71.5 ppg on 44.3% shooting from the field. The Governors have a rebound margin of 2.6 and a turnover margin of 4.1.
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels dropped to 12-17 (5-11 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 104-101 in 2OT, this past Saturday. Eastern Kentucky put up a solid fight against one of the better OVC teams in Jacksonville State, however, couldn’t pull off the upset victory in double-OT after a late 5-0 run by Jacksonville State put the game away for the Gamecocks. Eastern Kentucky allowed Jacksonville State to shoot 54.1% from the field and was outrebounded by the Gamecocks by a 49-37 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Colonels was Nick Mayo who had a double-double with 32 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 82.9 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Colonels are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 32.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Eastern Kentucky has been led by Nick Mayo (23.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.2 spg, 1.7 bpg), Jomaru Brown (13.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.9 spg), Dujuanta Weaver (9.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.3 spg), and Kelvin Robinson (8.1 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.3 spg).
Defensively, Eastern Kentucky is allowing their opponents to average 83.4 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field. The Colonels have a rebound margin of -3.6 and a turnover margin of 4.1.
The Governors are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 Thursday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game. The Colonels are 9-19 ATS in their last 28 home games and just 0-5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS win.
Austin Peay has won 7 of their last 8 games and have been outstanding on the offensive end this season as the Governors rank 20th in scoring offense, 33rd in FG%, and 17th in 3P-FG%.
Eastern Kentucky has lost 7 of their last 10 games and although their offense can put up points as the Colonels rank 18th in scoring offense, Eastern Kentucky has struggled defensively as they come into this match-up ranked just 348th in scoring defense and 324th in defensive FG%.
Eastern Kentucky has one of the best players in the OVC in Nick Mayo to go along with a respectable 8-4 record at home, however, Austin Peay is a very solid team that in my opinion has been a but underrated all season. Austin Peay was able to defeat Eastern Kentucky by a 93-75 margin at home in early January and as I think the Governors offense will have no trouble putting up a ton of points agianst the Colonels defense, I’m taking Austin Peay to cover this road spread.
