The Belmont Bruins will travel to McBrayer Arena to take on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Belmont Bruins won their 5th straight game and improved to 17-4 (8-2 OVC) on the season after defeating the UT-Martin Skyhawks, 82-67, this past Saturday. Belmont was outstanding on the offensive end against the Skyhawks and pulled away in the 2nd half after taking a 63-48 lead with 8:37 left in regulation. Belmont shot 50.0% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Bruins was Dylan Windler who had a double-double with 23 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist, and a block.
On the season, Belmont is averaging 86.7 ppg on 49.2% shooting from the field. The Bruins are averaging 9.7 three-pointers per game on 35.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Belmont has been led by Dylan Windler (19.3 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.4 spg), Kevin McClain (16.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.3 spg), Nick Muszynski (15.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.6 apg, 2.4 bpg), and Grayson Murphy (10.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 6.2 apg, 1.8 spg).
Defensively, Belmont is allowing their opponents to average 76.1 ppg on 42.3% shooting from the field. The Bruins have a rebound margin of 3.3 and a turnover margin of 0.1.
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 10-13 (3-7 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars, 88-82 in 2OT, this past Saturday. Eastern Kentucky fought back from a 37-22 halftime deficit to force OT, however, the offense went cold for the Colonels in the 2nd OT which allowed SIU-Edwardsville to pull away for the victory. Eastern Kentucky shot 40.0% from the field and 20.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Colonels was Nick Mayo who had a double-double with 33 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block.
On the season, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 84.9 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Colonels are averaging 9.1 three-pointers per game on 32.8% shooting from the field. The Colonels have been led by Nick Mayo (23.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.1 spg, 1.8 bpg), Jomaru Brown (12.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.8 spg), Dujuanta Weaver (10.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.3 spg), and Kelvin Robinson (8.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.5 spg).
Defensively, Eastern Kentucky is allowing their opponents to average 83.5 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Colonels have a rebound margin of -3.0 and a turnover margin of 4.3.
The Bruins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win. The Colonels are 8-17 ATS in their last 25 home games and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Belmont has won 8 of their last 9 games and has been outstanding on the offensive end this season as the Bruins rank 5th in scoring offense, 12th in FG%, and 4th in assists per game.
Eastern Kentucky has lost 7 of their last 10 games and although their offense currently ranks 11th in scoring offense, the Colonels have really struggled defensively as they currently rank just 347th in scoring defense and 320th in defensive FG%.
Eastern Kentucky is 7-2 at home this season and has one of the best players in the OVC in Nick Mayo, however, this is a Colonels defense that gave up 109 points to Belmont earlier this season in a 16-point loss. Belmont is once agianst one of the better teams in the OVC and as the Bruins have won the last three games in this series by at least 11-points, I’m taking Belmont to cover this large road spread.
