The Tennessee State Tigers will travel to McBrayer Arena to take on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The Tennessee State Tigers won their 3rd straight game and improved to 8-15 (5-6 OVC) on the season after defeating the Morehead State Eagles, 81-80 in 2 OT, this past Thursday. Tennessee State allowed Morehead State to fight back from a 67-59 deficit with just a 1:23 left in regulation to force OT, however, was able to pick up the needed road victory after a Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey three-pointers gave the Tigers the lead for good with 1:53 left in double-OT. Leading the way for the Tigers was Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey who had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block.

On the season, Tennessee State is averaging 72.5 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Tigers are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 33.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Tennessee State has been led by Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey (15.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.5 apg), Kamar McKnight (12.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.1 apg), Armani Chaney (8.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.4 spg), and Michael Littlejohn (8.0 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 1.2 apg).

Defensively, Tennessee State is allowing their opponents to average 77.0 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Tigers have a rebound margin of 0.7 and a turnover margin of -1.7.

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 10-4 (3-8 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the Belmont Bruins, 83-65, this past Thursday. Eastern Kentucky struggled on both ends of the courts against the Bruins and couldn’t fight back after the Bruins took a 67-41 lead with 11:41 left in regulation. Eastern Kentucky shot just 39.0% from the field and was outrebounded by the Bruins by a 45-28 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Colonels was Nick Mayo who had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 blocks, and 4 steals.

On the season, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 84.1 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field. The Colonels are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game on 32.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Eastern Kentucky has been led by Nick Mayo (23.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.2 spg, 1.8 bpg), Jomaru Brown (12.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.9 spg), Dujuanta Weaver (10.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.0 apg), and Kelvin Robinson (8.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.4 spg).

Defensively, Eastern Kentucky is allowing their opponents to average 83.5 ppg on 46.9% shooting from the field. The Colonels have a rebound margin of -3.6 and a turnover margin of 4.2.

Tennessee State is just 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games overall and  just 1-3 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Colonels are 8-18 ATS in their last 26 home games, however, just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.

Tennessee State has split their last 10 games and although their offense has struggled on both ends of the court this season as the Tigers currently rank just 199th in scoring offense, 298th in scoring defense, and 320th in defensive FG%.

Eastern Kentucky has lost 8 of their last 11 games and although they do put up points on the board as they rank 13th in scoring offense, the Colonels have really struggled defensively as they rank 348th in scoring defense & 324th in defensive FG%.

Tennessee State has played some of their best basketball as of late, however, this is still a team that has really struggled this season and have lost by an average of 17.8 ppg their 3 road conferences losses this season. Eastern Kentucky can give up a bunch of points, however, they have the best player on the court in Nick Mayo and as I think their offense will be able to up plenty of points in this one, I’m taking Eastern Kentucky to cover this mid-range home spread.

Pick:
Eastern Kentucky Colonels -6
