Eastern Michigan Eagles -2.5 -- Over/Under: 135
The Northern Illinois Huskies and the Eastern Michigan Eagles meet in college basketball MAC-tion from the EMU Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Northern Illinois Huskies could use a win after losing 5 of their last 7 games following a 72-81 loss to Ball State in their last outing. Eugene German led the Huskies with 17 points on 7 of 18 shooting with 3 threes and team-highs of 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Dante Thorpe added 15 points while Lacey James and Levi Bradley each had 12 points with James adding 6 rebounds and a pair of steals while Bradley had 5 boards. German leads Northern Illinois with an average of 20 points and 3.1 assists per game while James leads the Huskies in rebounding with 6.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Northern Illinois is averaging 75.8 points per game on 48.5% shooting from the field, 36.7% from behind the 3-point line and 72.2% from the foul line this season.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles will also be looking for a win after losing 5 of their last 6 games following a 59-48 loss to Miami-Ohio in their last outing. Paul Jackson led the Eagles with 16 points along with a team-high 5 assists while Boubacar Toure added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the double-double. Elijah Minnie added 10 points with a pair of steals and 3 blocks to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Eastern Michigan in the loss. Minnie leads Eastern Michigan in scoring with 14 points per game while Jackson leads the Eagles in assists with 4.5 assists per game and James Thompson IV leads the Eagles in rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 10.6 points to go along with his team-leading 10.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Eastern Michigan is averaging 70.9 points per game on 45.3% shooting from the field, 29.8% from behind the arc and 64.2% from the foul line this season.
Northern Illinois is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss while the under is 14-2-1 in their last 17 conference games. Eastern Michigan is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games overall while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Northern Illinois is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings between these two teams and 11-3 ATS in the last 14 meetings between these two teams at Eastern Michigan.
Both of these teams could definitely use a win and I can understand Eastern Michigan being favored because the Eagles are at home. However, it’s not like home court has made that much of a difference for the Eagles as Eastern Michigan has covered in just one of their last 6 home games. Northern Illinois doesn’t have the results to show for their work, but the Huskies have done a good job covering against teams with losing records and have performed well following up on a loss, so I’ll take the free bucket with Northern Illinois in a game I can see the Huskies winning outright if they play their cards right.
