Non-conference college basketball action gives us a matchup between the Canisius Golden Griffins and the Elon Phoenix.
The Canisius Golden Griffins ended a six game slide with a 68-62 win against visiting Robert Morris. Canisius connected at 48.9% and Robert Morris countered at 33.3% with a few more long balls and makes at the charity stripe to keep the game competitive.
Takal Molson kept the Golden Griffins one step ahead with 14 points and three yanks on 4-10 from the floor and 5-7 at the line with Scott Hitchon tossing in 13 points on 3-5 shooting and 7-8 at the stripe. Isaiah Reece gave Canisius ten points, 12 rebounds, seven helpers and four steals on 5-8 accuracy with Jalanni White chipping in eight points.
The Elon Phoenix need a change in fortune after a 75-74 loss to visiting North Carolina-Greensboro dropped the team to 3-7. Elon rallied from eight points down behind 45.8% shooting but 16 turnovers and an 11-20 effort at the charity stripe prevented the upset as a 13 point home underdog.
Tyler Seibring led all scorers with 26 points and eight rebounds on 10-18 marksmanship to keep the Phoenix within grasp of the upset with Steven Santa Ana adding 15 points and eight boards on 5-10 from the floor. Elon received nine points and a combined nine pulls from Sheldon Eberhardt and Nathan Priddy followed by a seven point, seven rebound effort from Chuck Hannah.
