The Delaware Blue Hens will travel to Alumni Gym (Elon University) to take on the Elon Phoenix this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Delaware Blue Hens improved to 14-8 (6-3 CAA) on the season after defeating the Drexel Dragons, 76-75, this past Saturday. Delaware led by a 74-61 margin with just 2:16 left in regulation, however, needed some late FT’s from Kevin Anderson to secure the victory after Drexel fought back to make it a surprisingly close game near the end. Delaware shot 55.8% from the field & 52.4% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Blue Hens was Ryan Allen who had 26 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, and a block.
On the season, Delaware is averaging 72.5 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field. The Blue Hens are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 38.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Delaware has been led by Eric Carter (17.0 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 2.6 apg), Ryan Allen (16.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.2 apg), Ithiel Horton (13.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.6 apg), and Kevin Anderson (10.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Delaware is allowing their opponents to average 70.9 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Blue Hens have a rebound margin of 0.5 and a turnover margin of -2.5.
The Elon Phoenix improved to 7-15 (3-6 CAA) on the season after defeating the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks, 89-82, this past Saturday. Elon was outstanding on the offensive end against the Seahawks defense and held a steady lead throughout the 2nd half after taking a 41-28 halftime lead. Elon shot 49.2% from the field and 36.1% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Tyler Seibring who had 32 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.
On the season, Elon is averaging 70.4 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 10.0 three-pointers per game on 35.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Blue Hens are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 Thursday games and 39-17-3 ATS in their last 59 games following an ATS loss. The Phoenix are 8-19 ATS in their last 27 games overall and just 3-9 ATS in their last 12 home games.
Delaware has won 6 of their last 8 games and come into this game ranked 77th in FG%, 26th in 3P-FG%, and T-162nd in scoring defense. Elon has won 2 of their last 3 games, however, has struggled for the most part on both ends of the court this season as they currently rank just 256th in scoring offense 7 284th in scoring defense.
Delaware is having one of their better seasons in recent history this year, however, the Blue Hens haven’t looked that impressive as of late in their last two match-ups at home against Towson & Drexel. It’s been a tough season for Elon, however, the Phoenix has played some of their best basketball of the season as of late and although they lost by a 77-65 margin at Delaware earlier this season, I think the Phoenix do enough at home to cover in this one. Good Luck!
