Elon Phoenix +13 -- Over/Under: 148
The Hofstra Pride will travel to Alumni Gym (Elon University) to take on the Elon Phoenix this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Hofstra Pride won their 11th straight game and improved to 14-3 (4-0 CAA) on the season after defeating the William & Mary Tribe, 93-90 in 3 OT, this past Thursday. Hofstra allowed William & Mary to fight back from a 38-28 halftime deficit to force the OT’s, however, Hofstra was able to keep their winning streak arrived after a pair of Justin Wright-Foreman FT’s gave Hofstra a 91-87 lead with just :18 seconds left in 3OT. Hofstra shot 40.2% from the field and won the turnover battle by a 20-12 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Pride was Justin Wright-Foreman who had 37 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal.
On the season, Hofstra is averaging 82.4 ppg on 48.3% shooting from the field. The Pride are averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game on 37.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Hofstra has been led by Justin Wright-Foreman (27.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.5 apg), Eli Pemberton (14.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.0 spg), Desure Buie (9.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 5.1 apg, 2.3 spg), and Jacquil Taylor (6.1 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.4 bpg).
Defensively, Hofstra is allowing their opponents to average 68.5 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Pride have a rebound margin of 4.2 and a turnover margin of 2.3.
The Elon Phoenix lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 5-13 (1-4 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Northeastern Huskies, 81-70 in OT, this past Thursday. Elon fought back from a 40-28 halftime deficit to force overtime, however, could get the much needed victory after Northeastern started overtime on a 7-0 run. Elon struggled offensively agianst the Huskies defense as they shot just 39.3% from the field & 28.0% from beyond the arc in the loss.
On the season, Elon is averaging 69.9 ppg on 43.6% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 9.9 three-pointers per game on 35.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Steve Santa Ana (16.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 22 apg), Tyler Seibring (15.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.5 apg), Sheldon Eberhardt (9.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.9 apg), and Nathan Priddy (8.2 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.5 apg).
Defensively, Elon is allowing their opponents to average 77.1 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -3.6 and a turnover margin of -3.2.
The Pride are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. CAA opponents. The Phoenix are 17-37 ATS in their last 54 games overall and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 home games.
Hofstra continues to rack up the victories behind an explosive offense that currently ranks 32nd in scoring offense, 38th in FG%, and 4th in FT%. Elon has lost 5 of their last 6 games and has struggled on both ends of the court as they rank just 274th in scoring offense & 290th in scoring defense.
Elon has been playing better as of late and generally is tougher opponent when they’re at home, but it’s hard to imagine that their defense is going to be able to slow down Justin Wright-Foreman and the Hofstra offense. Hofstra is an impressive 13-3 ATS this season and as they dominated Elon in a 19-point victory on the road last season, I think Hofstra will do enough in this one to cover this double-digit road spread.
