The James Madison Dukes will travel to Alumni Gym (Elon University) to take on the Elon Phoenix this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The James Madison Dukes lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 7-7 (0-1 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the William & Mary Tribe, 79-74, this past Friday. In a tight back and forth game, James Madison couldn’t fight back after a late 5-0 run by the Tribe gave William & Mary a 75-70 with 1:30 left in regulation. James Madison allowed William & Mary to shoot 49.2% from the field and 48.0% shooting from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Dukes was Matt Lewis who had 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

On the season, James Madison is averaging 69.6 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Dukes are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 34.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, James Madison has been led by Stuckey Mosley (16.7 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.1 spg), Matt Lewis (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Darius Banks (12.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.1 apg, 2.2 spg), and Dwight Wilson (8.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg).

Defensively, James Madison is allowing their opponents to average 70.9 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Dukes have a rebound margin of 3.0 and a turnover margin of -1.8.

The Elon Phoenix lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 4-10 (0-1 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Towson Tigers, 77-60, this past Friday. Elon led by a 27-24 margin at halftime, however, had no answers defensively for the Tigers in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after an 11-0 Tigers run gave Towson a 67-50 lead with 4:21 left in regulation. Elon allowed Towson to shoot 45.8% from the field and 58.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Steven Santa Ana who had 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.

On the season, Elon is averaging 70.8 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 10.5 three-pointers per game on 36.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Steve Santa Ana (16.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.2 apg), Tyler Seibring (15.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.6 apg), Sheldon Eberhardt (9.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 4.3 apg), and Nathan Priddy (7.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.2 apg).

Defensively, Elon is allowing their opponents to average 77.5 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -2.5 and a turnover margin of -3.4.

The Dukes are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a losing road record and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games vs. CAA opponents. The Phoenix are 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games overall and 1-8 ATS in their last 9 home games.

James Madison has struggle on the road this season, posting just a 2-5 record on the road and has struggled offensively as in their last 4 road games, the Dukes are averaging just 54.3 ppg. Elon has lost 6 of their last 7 games and has struggled on both ends of the court as they rank just 261st in scoring offense & 293rd in scoring defense. James Madison is at best a middle of the road CAA team this season, however, James Madison has enough talent on their team to pick up a rare road win agianst an Elon team that will probably come in last in the CAA this season. I’m taking James Madison to cover this small road spread.

Pick:
James Madison Dukes -1.5
