Elon Phoenix - 0 -- Over/Under: 152
The UNC Wilmington Seahawks will travel to the Schar Center to take on the Elon Phoenix this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The UNC Wilmington Seahawks snapped their 6-game losing streak and improved to 9-19 (5-10 CAA) on the season after upsetting the Hofstra Pride, 87-79, this past Saturday. UNC was surprisingly effective on the defensive end against the high-scoring Hofstra offense and was able to hold off the Pride down the stretch after taking a 67-62 lead with 6:10 left in regulation. UNC Wilmington shot 48.3% from the field, while holding Hofstra to just 39.7% shooting from the field and 36.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Devontae Cacok who had a double-double with 18 points, 16 rebounds, and a block.
On the season, UNC Wilmington is averaging 77.1 ppg on 45.1% shooting from the field. The Seahawks are averaging 7.9 three-pointers per game on 35.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UNC Wilmington has been led by Devontae Cacok (15.2 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 1.0 spg), Jeantal Cylla (13.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg), Ty Gadsden (11.1 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 2.3 apg), and Kai Toews (8.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 7.9 apg).
Defensively, UNC Wilmington is allowing their opponents to average 81.4 ppg on 47.5% shooting from the field. The Seahawks have a rebound margin of 3.9 and a turnover margin of -3.0.
The Elon Phoenix lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 8-19 (4-10 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the William & Mary Tribe, 84-74, this past Saturday. Elon had no answers for the Tribe’s Nathan Knight who put up a 35-point, 13-rebound performance and pulled away in the 2nd after taking a 79-72 lead with just over two-minutes left in regulation. Elon allowed William & Mary to shoot 45.3% from the field and 47.1% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Tyler Seibring who had a double-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block.
On the season, Elon is averaging 69.0 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 34.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Tyler Seibring (16.4 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.3 apg), Steve Santa Ana (14.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.3 apg), Sheldon Eberhardt (9.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.4 apg), and Nathan Priddy (7.2 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.7 apg).
Defensively, Elon is allowing their opponents to average 76.6 ppg on 45.1% shooting from the field. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -2.9 and a turnover margin of -3.0.
The Seahawks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a losing home record, however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record. The Phoenix are 10-22 ATS in their last 32 games overall and just 4-11 ATS in their last 15 home games.
UNC Wilmington has lost 8 of their last 10 games and although their fast-paced style of play has their offense ranked 74th in scoring offense, the Seahawks have generally struggled on the defensive end this season as they currently rank just 345th in scoring defense and 334th in defensive FG%.
Elon has lost 7 of their last 10 games and has struggled on both sides of the ball as they rank just 275th in scoring offense, 260th in FG%, and 293rd in scoring defense.
UNC-Wilmington is coming off a great victory against Hofstra, however, I’m not a sudden believer in the Seahawks defense as I’m chalking that loss up on just a poor shooting night for the Pride. Elon was able to pull off a 89-82 victory on the road against UNC Wilmington earlier this season and certainly have the ability to put up a solid amount of points against the Seahawks defense as if there is one positive about the Phoenix offense is that they can make three-pointers as they rank 20th in three-pointers made per game. UNC Wilmington is just 2-9 on the road this season and as I think the line is getting pushed in Elon’s favor due to the Seahawks recent win, I’m taking Elon in this pick-em. Good Luck!
