The Northern Iowa Panthers will travel to the Ford Center to take on the Evansville Purple Aces this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The Northern Iowa Panthers snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 11-15 (6-7 MVC) on the season after defeating the Illinois State Redbirds, 77-64, this past Wednesday. Northern Iowa was outstanding on the offensive end against the Redbirds and had no trouble cruising to victory after taking a 43-31 halftime lead. Northern Iowa shot 46.9% from the field and 51.6% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Panthers was Trae Berhow who had 20 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal.

On the season, Northern Iowa is averaging 66.6 ppg on 41.7% shooting from the field. The  Panthers are averaging 8.7 three-pointers per game on 35.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northern Iowa has been led by AJ Green (15.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.2 apg), Wyatt Lohaus (9.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.6 apg), Trae Berhow (8.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg), and Luke McDonnell (7.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.8 apg).

Defensively, Northern Iowa is holding their opponents to an average of 68.3 ppg on 44.9% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of -0.8 and a turnover margin of 0.6.

The Evansville Purple Aces lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 10-16 (4-9 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Missouri State Bears, 68-56, this past Wednesday night. Evansville has no answers on the defensive end for the Bears and couldn’t fight back after Missouri State took a 42-24 lead at halftime. Evansville allowed Missouri State to shoot 53.7% from the field and 75.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Purple Aces was Marty Hill who had 15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

On the season, Evansville is averaging 70.8 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field. The Purple Aces are averaging 8.1 three-pointers per game on 33.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Evansville has been led by K.J. Riley (13.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.2 spg), Marty Hill (11.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.2 spg), Shea Feehan (9.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.1 apg), and John Hall (9.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.1 apg).

Defensively, Evansville is allowing their opponents to average 72.5 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Purple Aces have a rebound margin of -3.7 and a turnover margin of -0.4.

The Panthers are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400, however, are just 6-20-1 ATS in their last 27 road games. The Purple Aces are 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games following an ATS loss, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.

Northern Iowa has lost 3 of their last 5 games and although their defense has been solid keeping opponents off the scoreboard as they rank T-92nd in scoring defense, the Panthers have struggled scoring the basketball this season as they come into this match-up ranked just 313th in scoring offense & 301st in FG%.

Evansville has lost 7 of their last 8 games and currently rank just 236th in scoring offense, 275th in FG%, and 208th in scoring defense.

Northern Iowa was able to defeat Evansville by an 81-74 margin at home earlier this season, however, picking up wins on the road has been a struggle for the Panthers as they are just 1-8 on the road this season. Evansville has really struggled as of late, however, the Purple Aces have been decent at home this season as they’ve posted a 9-5 record with quality wins against Loyola-Chicago & Drake. Evansville has lost the last three in this match-up however, as I think their defense at home is going to give the Panthers offense some trouble, I’m taking Evansville to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
