The Marist Red Foxes lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 5-21 (3-11 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Rider Broncs, 89-79, this past Saturday. Marist led by a 39-27 margin at halftime, however, had no answers on the defensive end in the 2nd half against the Broncs and couldn’t hang on for the win after Rider closed out the final 6:21 of regulation on a 28-4 run. Marist shot 46.3% from the field however, committed 26 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Red Foxes was Tobias Sjoberg who had a double-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds, and an assist. On the season, Marist is averaging 72.5 ppg on 44.7% shooting from the field. The Red Foxes are averaging 9.3 three-pointers per game on 35.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Fairfield Stags lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 10-15 (5-9 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Canisius Golden Griffins, 81-63, this past Monday. Fairfield went into halftime tied at 43-all, however, struggled offensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 18-2 Golden Griffins run gave Canisius a 81-63 lead with 9:15 left in regulation. Fairfield shot just 44.1% from the field and 20.0% (4-20) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Stags was Wassef Methnani who had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, and a steal. On the season, Fairfield is averaging 75.0 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Stags are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game on 33.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Fairfield has been led by Tyler Nelson (21.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.4 spg), Ferron Flavors Jr. (11.6 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.0 apg), Jesus Cruz (9.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.6 spg), and Jonathan Kasibabu (8.1 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.0 apg). Defensively, Fairfield is allowing their opponents to average 78.2 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field. The Stags have a rebound margin of -3.5 and a turnover margin of 0.5.
The Red Foxes are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record. The Stags are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 however, are just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
Marist has lost 8 of their last 10 games and has really struggled defensively this season as the Red Foxes come into this game ranked just 332nd in scoring defense, 240th in defensive FG%, and 344th in turnover margin. Fairfield has won 3 of their last 5 games and although they have a decent offense that ranks 142nd in scoring offense, defense has been a problem for the Stags as they currently rank just 310th in scoring defense and 269th in defensive FG%. Marist was able to defeat Fairfield at home in a close 95-89 (OT) battle, however, Fairfield is has a decent 4-2 record at home in MAAC play this season and as the Red Foxes are just 2-7 away from home, I think the Fairfield offense will be able to do enough at home to cover this spread. Take Fairfield to cover.
