The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights and the Prairie View A&M Panthers meet in a first four NCAA tournament matchup from the UD Arena in college basketball action on Tuesday.

The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights enter the tournament as a #16 seed as the representative out of the Northeast Conference. The Knights finished the regular season with an overall record of 20-13 with non-conference losses to Providence, South Florida, UMass and Rutgers. The Knights finished with a 12-6 conference record, which was good enough to claim the #2 seed in the conference tournament where the Knights steamrolled Wagner and scored a narrow win over Robert Morris before an 85-76 win in the conference championship game against top-seeded St. Francis. Darnell Edge led the Knights in scoring with 16.4 points per game while Jahlil Jenkins is 2nd with 13.5 points while leading FDU in assists with 4.5 assists per game. Mike Holloway JR. is averaging 12.5 points per game and Xzavier Malone-Key is averaging 11.4 points per game while Kaleb Bishop is contributing 10.1 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Fairleigh Dickinson is averaging 75.4 points per game on 47.8% shooting from the field, 40.3% from behind the 3-point line which is good for the 5th-best 3-point percentage in D-I, in addition to a 73.1% mark from the foul line this season.

The Prairie View A&M Panthers come into the madness as a #16 seed, representing the SWAC, The Panthers started the year with a road win over Santa Clara before dropping 11 straight games, including losses to Murray State, Georgia Tech, East Carolina and Louisiana Tech. The Panthers went 17-1 in conference play, finishing with the top-seed in the conference tournament, and registered double-digit wins over Alcorn State and Grambling State in the quarters and semis before a 92-86 win over Texas Southern in the conference championship game. Gary Blackston leads Prairie View A&M in scoring and rebounding with 15.2 points and 7 rebounds per game while Devonte Patterson is 2nd in scoring with 13 points per game and Gerard andrus is 3rd with 10 points per game this season. Dennis Jones is averaging 8.6 points and a team-high 4.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Prairie View A&M is averaging 75 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field, 31.2% from 3-point range and 68.1% from the foul line this season.

Fairleigh Dickinson is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. Prairie View A&M is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 neutral site games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 non-conference games.

Prairie View A&M may be able to negate the Knights’ ability to shoot the 3-pointer, but I’m still worried that the Panthers may not be able to keep Fairleigh Dickinson from racking up points. The Panthers dominated their conference, but it was a conference where 4 teams had 10 or fewer victories and if we are being honest, Prairie View A&M didn’t look all that good out of conference this season. Fairleigh Dickinson is the more consistent offensive team and have experience in this kind of tournament scenario, so I’ll lay the points with the Knights for an opening round victory.

Fairleigh Dickinson -1.5
