The Rice Owls and the FIU Panthers meet in C-USA college basketball action from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Thursday night.

The Rice Owls will look to finish strong after picking up a 74-69 win over Marshall in their last outing. Chris Mullins led the Owls with 12 points along with team-highs of 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals while Jack Williams and Trey Murphy III each had 11 points. Murphy III had 3 threes while Williams added 8 rebounds of his own. Quentin Millora-Brown and Robert Martin each had 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for Rice in the win, with Milora-Brown adding 6 rebounds and 4 assists while Martin grabbed 7 rebounds. Mullins leads Rice in scoring with 12.6 points per game while Williams leads the Owls in rebounding with 8 boards per game and Ako Adams leads Rice in assists with 2.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Rice is averaging 75.8 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field, 35.4% from behind the arc and 68.6% from the foul line this season.

The FIU Panthers could use a win after losing back-to-back games and 4 of their last 5 games following an 85-75 loss to UTEP last time out. Devon Andrews led the Panthers with 26 points on 8 of 17 shooting with a team-high 6 rebounds while Antonio Daye Jr. added 14 points and Willy Nunez Jr. chipped in 10 points with 3 threes to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for FIU in the loss. Brian Beard Jr. added 5 points with a team-high 5 assists and 3 steals while Isaiah Banks had 9 points and 4 steals. Beard Jr. leads FIU with an average of 17.3 points and 6.2 assists per game while Osasumwen Osaghae leads the Panthers in rebounding with 8.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, FIU is averaging 84.7 points per game on 44.3% shooting from the field, 30.7% from behind the 3-point line and 63.1% from the foul line this season.

Rice is 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games following a win. FIU is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 10-4-1 in their last 15 games following a loss. Rice is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

FIU has done a decent job beating and covering against teams that they should do it against, so the low line at home is tempting. However, Rice has been solid ATS as of late, including covering their last 4 games on the road and have been slightly more consistent than FIU as of late. I think the Owls can keep this one close until the very end, so I’ll take a shot with Rice and the points in this one.

Rice +3.5
