The Canisius Golden Griffins and the Florida State Seminoles meet in college basketball action from the Donald L. Tucker Center on Monday night.
The Canisius Golden Griffins will look for a big road win after their first loss of the season, coming in the form of a 75-66 loss to Albany in their last outing. Takai Molson led the Griffins with 24 points while Scott Hitchon added 10 points as the only other Golden Griffin to score in double figures in the losing effort. Isaiah Reese chipped in 6 points with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the loss for Canisius. Molson leads Canisius in scoring with 24.5 points per game while Reese leads the Golden Griffins on the glass with 7 rebounds per game and Malik Johnson is Canisius’ top assist man with 3 assists per game this season. As a team, Canisius is scoring 74 points per game on 41.9% shooting from the field, 30.8% from behind the arc and 68% from the foul line this season.
The Florida State Seminoles will look to keep their momentum going after improving to 2-0 this year with an 80-69 win over Tulane in their last outing. Terance Mann led the Seminoles with 21 points on 9 of 17 shooting with 10 rebounds for the double-double while PJ Savoy added 14 points with 3 triples and Trent Forrest added 13 points with 7 rebounds and team-highs of 5 assists and 3 steals. Mfiondu Kabengele added 12 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for FSU in the winning effort. Savoy leads Florida State with an average of 17 points per game while Mann leads the Seminoles in rebounding with 9.5 rebounds per game and Forrest leads the ‘Noles in assists with 5 assists per game this season. As a team, Florida State is averaging 80.5 points per game on 48.1% shooting from the field, 40.5% from behind the 3-point line and 69% from the foul line this season.
Canisius is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 15-7-1 ATS in their last 23 games overall while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 non-conference games. Florida State is 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 non-conference games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win.
Canisius has been solid ATS on the road dating back to last season, and Florida State hasn’t played in a week, so there could be some rust on the Seminoles here. However, the Golden Griffins were just handled at home by an Albany squad that in my opinion isn’t on the level below Florida State right now. The Seminoles pancaked Florida in their opener and handled Tulane next, and while Canisius does pose a challenge, I think it’s one that Florida State will be up for so I’ll lay the points with the Seminoles here.
