The Line: Gonzaga -7.5 -- Over/Under: 146.5
The Florida State Seminoles and Gonzaga Bulldogs meet Thursday in the Sweet 16 of the college basketball NCAA Tournament at the Honda Center.
The Florida State Seminoles look for back-to-back Elite Eight appearances and the fourth in school history. The Florida State Seminoles are averaging 75.4 points on 44.4 percent shooting and allowing 67 points on 40.7 percent shooting. Mfiondu Kabengele is averaging 13.4 points and 5.9 rebounds while Terance Mann is averaging 11.6 points and 2.5 assists. Trent Forrest is dishing 3.7 assists and M.J. Walker is grabbing 2.2 rebounds. The Florida State Seminoles are shooting 33.7 percent from beyond the arc and 74.6 percent from the free throw line. The Florida State Seminoles are allowing 33.4 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 35 rebounds per game. The Florida State Seminoles have won eight of their last 10 non-home games.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs look for their third Elite Eight appearance since 2015 and the fourth in school history. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are averaging 88.6 points on 53.2 percent shooting and allowing 64.8 points on 38.7 percent shooting. Rui Hachimura is averaging 19.7 points and 6.6 rebounds while Brandon Clarke is averaging 17 points and 1.9 assists. Zach Norvell Jr. is the third double-digit scorer and Josh Perkins is grabbing 2.7 rebounds. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are shooting 36.6 percent from beyond the arc and 76.2 percent from the free throw line. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are allowing 30.5 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 36.3 rebounds per game. The Gonzaga Bulldogs have won 11 of their last 12 non-home games.
The Seminoles are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games, 9-3-2 ATS in their last 14 neutral site games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. West Coast. The Bulldogs are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games, 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 NCAA Tournament games and 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. Atlantic Coast. The under is 5-1 in Bulldogs last 6 non-conference games. The over is 6-0 in Seminoles last 6 non-conference games.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs have been nothing but money ATS this season, which includes 22-13 ATS overall, 5-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games and 21-12 ATS as a favorite. Throw in the fact Gonzaga is shooting 52.1 percent from the field in its last five games and winning those games by an average of 15.4 points, and it's tough to bet against the Bulldogs. The problem is the Florida State Seminoles are battle tested and the moment doesn't seem too big for them. FSU completely dominated Murray State and shutdown one of the top players in the country, and that defense along with the length is no joke. The Florida State Seminoles don't give up easy shots, and while I was iffy on the offense and shotmaking, the Noles have stepped up in their first two tournament games and are fresh off a game in which they made 11 threes. This is likely going to be a slow paced game where defense takes over, and I want the free buckets in these situations. While I had Gonzaga making the championship in my bracket, this is a contest FSU could easily win outright.
