Florida State Seminoles -5 -- O/U: 144
The Murray State Racers and the Florida State Seminoles meet in an NCAA tournament second round matchup in college basketball action on Saturday.
The Murray State Racers punched their ticket to the second round after pulling off what some would consider an upset of #5 seeded Marquette in an 83-64 beatdown on Thursday. Tevin Brown led the Racers with 19 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 5 threes and 6 rebounds while Ja Morant had 17 points with 11 rebounds and a whopping 16 assists for the triple-double. KJ Williams came right behind with 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting while Shaq Buchanan added 14 points with 6 rebounds and 3 steals to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Murray State in the win. Darnell Cowart added 9 points with 8 rebounds as well in the winning effort. Morant leads the Racers in scoring and assists with 24.4 points and 10.2 assists per game while Cowart leads Murray State in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Murray State is averaging 83.3 points per game on 49.7% shooting from the field, 35.2% from behind the arc and 73.2% from the foul line this season.
The Florida State Seminoles reached the second round after grinding out a 76-69 win over Vermont in their last outing. Mfiondu Kabengele led the Seminoles with 21 points along with a 9 of 12 mark from the charity stripe and a team-high 10 rebounds for the double-double while Terance Mann added 19 points on 6 of 8 shooting with a 7 of 8 mark from the foul line and 8 rebounds as the only other double-digit scorer for Florida State in the win. Kabengele leads Florida State in scoring with 13.1 points per game while Mann leads the Seminoles in rebounding with 6.4 rebounds per game and Trent Forrest leads Florida State in assists with 3.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Florida State is scoring 74.9 points per game on 44.1% shooting from the floor, 33.4% from the 3-point line and 74.5% from the foul line this season.
Murray State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 neutral site games. Florida State is 8-3-2 ATS in their last 13 neutral site games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 NCAA tournament games.
Florida State is the more nameworthy of the two sides here, but Murray State’s performance in the opening round wasn’t that of a #12 seed. The Racers thoroughly outplayed Marquette and just showed how dangerous they can be offensively, especially with a top-5 pick in Ja Morant leading the charge. Florida State can score in their own right and are tough defensively and will surely dig in more than Marquette did, but I just get the feeling that Murray State is the team that’s going to bust brackets this season and that the Racers aren’t done just yet. Give me the points in a game I see Murray State winning outright.
