Florida State Seminoles -12.5 -- Over/Under: 138.5
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Florida State Seminoles meet in ACC college basketball action from the Donald L. Tucker Center on Monday night.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to snap a 3-game losing streak after a 67-59 loss to Virginia Tech in their last outing. Temple Gibbs led the Irish with 18 points including 3 threes and 3 steals while John Mooney and Nate Laszewski each had 12 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Notre Dame in the losing effort, with Mooney shooting 5 of 10 from the floor with 10 rebounds and a pair of steals while Laszewski went 4 of 9 with a pair of threes. Prentiss Hubb was held to just 2 points but dished out a team-high 7 assists as well in the loss. Gibbs leads Notre Dame in scoring with 14.1 points per game while Hubb leads the Irish in assists with 3.9 helpers per game and Mooney leads Notre Dame in rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 14 points to go along with his team-leading 10.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Notre Dame is averaging 70.3 points per game on 39.9% shooting from the field, 31.5% from behind the 3-point line and 76.2% from the foul line this season.
The Florida State Seminoles will look to rebound after having their 8-game winning streak snapped with a 77-59 loss to North Carolina last time out. David Nichols led the Seminoles with 16 points on 4 of 9 shooting from 3-point range while Terance Mann added 10 points and a team-high 6 assists as the only other Florida State player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Mfiondu Kabengele added 8 points with team-highs of 6 rebounds and 3 blocks but still leads Florida State in scoring with 13.2 points per game while Mann leads the Seminoles in rebounding with 6.4 rebounds per game and Trent Forrest leads FSU in assists with 3.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Florida State is averaging 76.5 points per game on 44.8% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the arc and 73.7% from the foul line this season.
Notre Dame is 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. Florida State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 8-2-1 in their last 11 home games. Notre Dame is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
The points with Notre Dame are tempting considering that 3 of the last 4 meetings between these two teams at Florida State have been decided by 4 points or less and that Notre Dame is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings against Florida State, including covers in each of the last 4 meetings. However, Notre Dame couldn’t beat a Virginia Tech team without one of their best players on the floor and I have little faith against a Florida State team that’s done a good job at home lately. Granted, the Seminoles have a recent history of playing down to lesser opposition, but I think getting humiliated by UNC will have the Seminoles coming into this one focused and angry, so I’ll lay the points with Florida State in this one.
