The Line: Florida State Seminoles -21.5 -- Over/Under:
We have some ACC action on the hardwood Sunday afternoon, as the Pitt Panthers battle the Florida State Seminoles in a college basketball matchup.
The Pitt Panthers will be looking for their first conference win to snap a 14 game losing streak following an 81-58 blowout at the hands of Boston College in their last outing. Parker Stewart led the Panthers with 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting with 4 threes, while Jared Wilson-Frame added 11 points on 4 of 11 shooting with 3 threes and a share of the team-lead with 5 rebounds. Marcus Carr added 7 points and a team-high 5 assists, while Khameron Davis added 3 points with 5 boards and 3 steals of his own in the losing effort. Wilson-Frame leads Pittsburgh in scoring with 12.6 points per game while Carr leads the Panthers with 4.3 assists per game and Shamiel Stevenson leads Pitt with 4.5 boards per game this season. As a team, Pittsburgh is scoring 62.8 points per game on 41.3% shooting from the field, 32.6% from behind the arc and 69.7% from the foul line this season.
The Florida State Seminoles will look for some consistent play after splitting their last 6 games, including an 81-79 overtime win over Clemson in their last outing. Phil Cover led FSU with 17 points on 8 of 11 shooting while Trent Forrest came right behind in 2nd with 16 points and a team-high 4 assists and Terance Mann added 13 points with a team-high 8 rebounds, a pair of steals and a pair of blocks. Braian Angola chipped in 10 points to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for the Seminoles in the win. Mann leads Florida State with an average of 14.4 points and 6 rebounds per game while Forrest leads the Seminoles in assists with 3.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Florida State is scoring 82.8 points per game on 47.3% shooting from the field, 35.9% from behind the arc and 68.6% from the foul line this season.
Pitt is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 22-6 in their last 28 games following a loss. Florida State is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 22-10 ATS in their last 32 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games following a win. Pitt is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
There was a stretch where Pitt was actually playing some tight ball games and should’ve had a wn here or there. Now, it just seems like the Panthers have given up, and are not only getting beat down on the road, but at home as well, losing each of their last 4 games by 20 or more points. Florida State is averaging 20 points more per game than Pittsburgh and I think that could only get worse from here, so I’ll take FSU to win this one in a rout.
