The 2nd ranked Virginia Cavaliers will travel to the Donald L. Tucker Center to take on the Florida State Seminoles this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The 2nd ranked Virginia Cavaliers won their 14th straight game and improved to 22-1 (11-0 ACC) on the season after defeating the Syracuse Orange, 59-44, this past Saturday. Virginia was once again outstanding on the defensive end and pulled away easily in the 2nd half after a 12-0 Cavaliers run gave Virginia a 48-27 lead with 9:06 left in regulation. Virginia held Syracuse to just 33.3% shooting from the field and 19.0% (4-21) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Cavaliers was Kyle Guy who had 14 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. On the season, Virginia is averaging 68.7 ppg on 46.9% shooting from the field. The Cavaliers are averaging 7.5 three-pointers per game on 38.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Virginia has been led by Kyle Guy (15.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.3 spg), Devon Hall (12.1 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.1 apg), Ty Jerome (9.6 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.5 spg), Isaiah Wilkins (6.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.3 spg, 1.7 bpg). Defensively, Virginia is holding their opponents to an average of 52.3 ppg on 37.4% shooting from the field. The Cavaliers have a rebound margin of 1.5 and a turnover margin of 5.0.
The Florida State Seminoles improved to 17-6 (6-5 ACC) on the season after defeating the Louisville Cardinals, 80-76, this past Saturday. Florida State did a great job on the glass against the Cardinals and pulled away in the 2nd half after taking a 72-65 lead with 3:37 left in regulation. Florida State shot 45.0% from the field and outrebounded Louisville by a 43-34 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Seminoles was Phil Cofer who had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. On the season, Florida State is averaging 84.6 ppg on 47.6% shooting from the field. The Seminoles are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 36.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Florida State has been led by Terance Mann (15.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Braian Angola (14.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.6 spg), Phil Cofer (13.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg), and CJ Walker (9.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.0 apg). Defensively, Florida State is allowing their opponents to average 73.3 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field. The Seminoles have a rebound margin of 4.3 and a turnover margin of 1.8.
The Cavaliers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Seminoles are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Virginia continues to dominate the ACC this season and is on pace to have one of the better defensive teams off all time as the Cavaliers currently rank 1st in scoring defense, 3rd in defensive FG%, and 7th in turnover margin. Florida State has won 4 of their last 5 and have been solid on the offensive end of the ball this season as the Seminoles come into this matchup ranked 19th in scoring offense and 47th in FG%. Florida State is 10-1 at home, however, I’ve been rolling with the Cavaliers all season and as the Cavaliers showed they could slow down the Duke offense on the road, I think Virginia will have success against Florida State and cover this small road spread. Take Virginia to cover.
