Florida Gators -3 -- O/U: 134.5
The Arkansas Razorbacks and the Florida Gators meet in an SEC tournament second round matchup in college basketball action from the Bridgestone Arena on Thursday afternoon.
The Arkansas Razorbacks come into the tournament as the #9 seed with an overall record of 17-14, including an 8-10 mark in SEC play to finish tied for 9th but winning out on a head-to-head tiebreaker with Alabama for the higher seed. Arkansas had some tough opposition out of the gate, losing in overtime to Texas as well as losses to Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky while picking up wins over Indiana, Colorado State and Texas State. Arkansas got out to a slow 2-4 conference start and battled back above .500 with 3 straight wins, but proceeded to lose 6 straight to fall back to 5-10 before rattling off 3 straight wins to finish the season. Daniel Gafford led the Razorbacks in scoring and rebounding with 16.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game while Isaiah Joe averaged 14 points per game and Mason Jones chipped in 13.8 points per game. Jalen Harris also added a team-high 5.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Arkansas is averaging 76.3 points per game on 44.9% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the 3-point line and 66.3% from the foul line this season.
The Florida Gators come into the SEC tournament as the #8 seed, finishing the regular season at 17-14, including a 9-9 mark in SEC play. Florida booked some stiff competition in the early going with losses to Florida State, Oklahoma, Butler and Michigan State while defeating Stanford, West Virginia and avenging their loss to Butler with a 34-point win at home after Christmas. Florida split their first 8 conference games, following that up with 3 straight losses to fall below .500. The Gators then bounced back with 5 straight wins before falling flat down the stretch with another 3 losses in a row. KeVaughn Allen led Florida in scoring with 11.9 points per game while Noah Locke was the only other Gator to average double figures scoring with 10.2 points per game. Kevarrius Hayes averaged a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game while Andrew Nembhard dished out a team-high 5.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Florida is averaging 68.3 points per game on 42.3% shooting from the field, 33.4% from behind the arc and 72.1% from the foul line this season.
Arkansas is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 games following a win. Florida is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 conference games. Arkansas is 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
Florida played some tough competition down the stretch, but in my opinion, a loss to Georgia is inexcusable for the Gators, especially at home. Arkansas has had recent issues ATS in their own right, but the fact is that the Gators just aren’t a team that I trust to finish the job in crunch time. The Razorbacks have the better team in my opinion, so I’ll take a shot with the free bucket and the Razorbacks here.
