The Tennessee Volunteers and the Florida Gators meet in SEC conference college basketball action from the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on Saturday evening.
The Tennessee Volunteers will look to add to their current 9-game winning streak after picking up an 87-63 win over Missouri in their last outing. Jordan Bowden led the Vols with 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting with a 6 of 6 mark from the foul line while Jordan Bone added 17 points along with a team-high 5 assists and Admiral Schofield added 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and a pair of steals. Kyle Alexander added 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting with a game-high 17 rebounds and 3 blocks to round out the group of double-digit scorers for the Vols in the winning effort. Grant Williams was held to just 4 points on 1 of 8 shooting from the floor, but still leads the Volunteers in scoring with an average of 18.8 points per game while Alexander leads Tennessee in rebounding with 8.1 rebounds per game and Bone leads the Volunteers in assists with 6.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Tennessee is averaging 86.4 points per game while owning the 4th-best field goal percentage in the country, shooting 51.4% from the floor in addition to 35% from behind the arc and 74.2% from the foul line this season.
The Florida Gators will look to build some momentum after grinding out a 57-51 win over Arkansas in their last outing. KeVaughn Allen led the Gators with 18 points on just 3 of 11 shooting but balanced it out with an 11 of 12 mark from the foul line while Noah Locks added 10 points on 4 of 8 shooting with a pair of threes as the only other Gator to score in double figures in the winning effort. Andrew Nembhard had 6 points, 5 rebounds and a team-high 4 assists while Jalen Hudson added 9 points and a team-high 6 rebounds as well in the victory. Allen leads Florida in scoring with 10.9 points per game while Nembhard leads Florida in assists with 5.7 assists per game and Kevarrius Hayes leads the Gators in rebounding with 5.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Florida is averaging 69.9 points per game on 43.1% shooting from the field, 34.1% from 3-point range and 66.3% from the foul line this season. The Gators are also one of the tightest defensive units in the country, giving up the 8th-fewest points per game this season, allowing just 60 points per game.
Tennessee is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Florida is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a win and 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 home games against a team with a winning road record while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 games overall. Tennessee is 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams at Florida.
Looking at the trends, it’s no secret that the Vols have had issues against the Gators, especially in Florida. However, this may be the best Tennessee team that’s taken the floor against the Gators and while Florida plays some solid defense, the Volunteers play good defense and much better offense than the Gators do. The Volunteers have also been very good on the road while Florida has had covering issues at home, so I’ll lay the points with Tennessee in this spot.
