The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Florida Gators meet in SEC college basketball action from Exactech Arena on Saturday night.
The Vanderbilt Commodores will look to get out of the basement in the SEC, sitting at 1-10 in conference play after a 78-64 loss to Kentucky last time out. Saben Lee leads the ‘Dores in scoring and assists with 17 points and 4.5 assists per game while Scotty Pippen Jr. is the only other double-digit scorer for Vanderbilt this season with 11.3 points per game. Dylan Disu is adding 6.9 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game to the cause this season. As a team, Vanderbilt is averaging 72.3 points per game on 43% shooting from the field, 33% from behind the 3-point line and 68.2% from the foul line while allowing their opposition to average 74.3 points on 46.5% shooting from the field and 35.1% from behind the arc this season. Vanderbilt is 0-6 straight up and 4-2 against the spread on the road this season.
The Florida Gators will try to gain some ground on the top-3 in the SEC, sitting at 7-4 in conference play after a 78-61 win over Texas A&M last time out. Kerry Blackshear Jr. leads the Gators in scoring and rebounding with 13.5 points and7.9 rebounds per game while Keyontae Johnson is right behind in 2nd with 13.3 points and Andrew Nembhard is 3rd with 12 points and a team-high 5.7 assists per game. Noah Locke is adding 10.4 points per game to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Florida this season. As a team, Florida is averaging 72.3 points per game on 44.8% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the arc and 72.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 66.8 points on 41.4% shooting from the field and 31.7% from behind the arc this season. Florida is 8-3 straight up and 3-8 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 12-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings between these two teams and the road team is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
I get that Florida is the better team and should be favored here, especially at home, but the Gators have been far from convincing for the most part as of late, and Vanderbilt has shown an ability to hang around with some tough opposition, and just took Florida down to the wire in a six point game a couple of weeks ago. This is just too many points in my opinion, so I’ll take Vanderbilt and the points in this one.
