Fresno State Bulldogs -7 -- Over/Under: 141.5
The Boise State Broncos and the Fresno State Bulldogs meet in Mountain West college basketball action from the Save Mart Center on Wednesday night.
The Boise State Broncos will look to build on a 105-57 rout of San Jose State in their last outing. Derrick Alston led the Broncos with 33 points on 12 of 15 shooting with 5 threes and a team-high 4 assists while RJ Williams added 22 points on 9 of 12 shooting in just 19 minutes on the floor. Alex Hobbs chipped in 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting with 3 threes while Marcus Dickinson contributed 11 points with 3 triples and Justinian Jessup added 10 points with a pair of steals to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Boise State in the winning effort. David Wacker also grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds as well in the win. Jessup leads the Broncos with an average of 13.1 points and 2.4 assists per game while Williams leads Boise State in rebounding with 5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Boise State is averaging 72.3 points per game on 47.8% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the arc and 71.6% from the foul line this season.
The Fresno State Bulldogs will be looking to build on an 83-65 win over UNLV in their last outing. Braxton Huggins led the Bulldogs with 31 points on 10 of 16 shooting with 6 threes while Deshon Taylor added 18 points with 4 threes, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Nate Grimes and Noah Blackwell each had 13 points to finish off the quartet of double-digit scorers for Fresno State in the win. Grimes added 11 rebounds for the double-double while Blackwell shot 5 of 8 from the floor with 3 threes. Huggins leads Fresno State in scoring with 18.7 points per game while Grimes leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 9.3 rebounds per game and Blackwell leads Fresno State in assists with 4 helpers per game this season. As a team, Fresno State is averaging 76.9 points per game on 46% shooting from the field, 38.1% from behind the arc and 72% from the foul line this season.
Boise State is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games and 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. Fresno State is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 home games. Boise State is 4-9 ATS in the last 13 meetings between these two teams but are also 14-5 ATS in the last 19 meetings between these two teams at Fresno State.
Boise State and the points are very tempting considering how the Broncos showed their offensive prowess against San Jose State and that Boise State has had a lot of success over the years at Fresno State. However, the Broncos have had issues on the road and have had struggles when taking a step up in competition dating back to last season. Sure, the Broncos have won 3 games on the road in conference this season, but those 3 wins came against the bottom 3 teams in the Mountain West. Outside of those 3 games, Boise State has double-digit losses to Air Force and most recently Nevada, and while I’m not sure the result here is as extreme, I think the Bulldogs hold the cards in this one, so I’ll lay the points with Fresno State in this one.
