Fresno State Bulldogs -8.5 -- Over/Under: 141.5
The San Diego State Aztecs and the Fresno State Bulldogs meet in Mountain West conference college basketball action from the Save Mart Center on Tuesday night.
The San Diego State Aztecs will look to build some steam after a 97-77 win over New Mexico in their last outing. Jalen McDaniels led the Aztecs with 24 points on 10 of 19 shooting with 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the double-double while Devin Watson added 21 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 5 threes. Nathan Mensah added 16 points on a perfect 7 of 7 from the floor with 7 rebounds while Aguek Arop and Jordan Schakel each had 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for SDSU in the winning effort. Matt Mitchell and Jeremy Hemsley each added a team-high 9 assists as well in the victory. McDaniels leads San Diego State in scoring with an average of 15.9 points and 8 rebounds per game while Watson leads the Aztecs in assists with 5.1 assists per game this season. As a team, San Diego State is averaging 76.1 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 38% from behind the arc and 73% from the foul line this season.
The Fresno State Bulldogs will look to build on a 63-53 road win over Boise State in their last outing. Deshon Taylor led the Bulldogs with 15 points along with a team-high 4 assists while New Williams added 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting with 3 threes as the only other Fresno State player to score in double figures as well in the winning effort. Nate Grimes also chipped in 7 points with team-highs of 8 rebounds and 3 blocks as well in the victory. Braxton Huggins was held to just 6 points but still leads the Bulldogs with an average of 18.4 points per game while the aforementioned Grimes leads Fresno State in rebounding with 8.7 rebounds per game and Noah Blackwell leads the Bulldogs in assists with 4.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Fresno State is averaging 77.5 points per game on 46.4% shooting from the field, 38% from behind the arc and 73.5% from the foul line this season.
San Diego State is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 conference games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games following a win. Fresno State is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. The underdog is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams and the road team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I can definitely understand why the Bulldogs are favored here, being at home and having played well ATS as of late. However, home court hasn’t mattered much in this matchup, as the road team has covered in 5 of the last 6 meetings, and while the last couple of matchups haven’t been close, with the last two being decided by 12 and 18 points each, the fact is that these two teams have a history of playing close games with 5 meetings over the last 4 years being decided by 5 points or less. San Diego State also plays solid defense and it travels, so I’ll take a shot with the Aztecs and the points here in a game that could be decided late.
