The Line: Furman Paladins -16 -- Over/Under:
Out at Timmons Arena on Thursday, the Chattanooga Mocs will be taking on the Furman Paladins in college basketball activity.
Chattanooga enters this game with a 9-18 record overall. The Mocs have lost three of their last four games, falling most recently to Mercer on Saturday. In that game, Mocs guard Rodney Chatman managed 24 points.
Leading the way in scoring for Chattanooga this year is Nat Dixon with 14.9 PPG and 4.7 RPG. Also in double-figures for the Mocs are Makonde London (13.7 PPG; 7.0 RPG) and Chatman (13.4 PPG).
Furman is sitting at 17-9 this season. The Paladins had lost three of five but then took their last game versus Wofford. In that one, Furman guard John Davis led the team with 13 points on the evening.
Devin Sibley is the top Furman scorer this season with 14.9 PPG and 4.5 RPG, while Davis is second on 12.0 PPG. Also in double-figures for the Paladins are Matt Rafferty (11.5 PPG; 7.5 RPG) and Daniel Fowler (11.3 PPG).
Chattanooga is 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games following a straight-up loss and 12-26 ATS in their last 38 games overall. The Mocs are also 8-22 ATS in their last 30 games following an ATS loss and 7-22 ATS in their last 29 versus the Southern.
Meanwhile, the Paladins are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games and 29-12-1 ATS in their last 42 home games. The over is 4-1 in Furman’s last five overall and 4-1 in their last five versus the Southern.
Chattanooga has some pretty good scorers on their roster, but they’re also giving up way too many points to be competitive. The Mocs have surrendered at least 81 points in each of their last three games. The last time these teams met was a 73-55 Furman win, and I don’t think this matchup will be much different. I’ll go with the Paladins.
