The Dayton Flyers will travel to EagleBank Arena to take on the George Mason Patriots this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Dayton Flyers dropped to 11-13 (5-7 A-10) on the season after being defeated by the VCU Rams, 88-84 in OT, this past Saturday. Dayton was able to force OT after Josh Cunningham made a layup as time expired, had no answers for VCU’s Justin Tillman in overtime and couldn’t fight back after the Rams took an 86-84 lead with 0:26 seconds remaining. Dayton allowed VCU to shoot 53.7% from the field and 42.1% (8-19) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Flyers was Jalen Crutcher who had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists. On the season, Dayton is averaging 74.0 ppg on 48.5% shooting from the field. The Flyers are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 35.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Dayton has been led by Josh Cunningham (16.7 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 1.6 apg), Darrell Davis (16.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.1 apg), Trey Landers (10.0 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg), and Jalen Crutcher (9.0 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.3 apg). Defensively, Dayton is allowing their opponents to average 73.5 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Flyers currently have a rebound margin of 0.0 and a turnover margin of -1.2.
The George Mason Patriots improved to 11-14 (5-7 A-10) on the season after defeating the George Washington Colonials, 72-65, this past Saturday. George Mason dominated George Washington in the paint and pulled away in the 2nd half after a 16-2 Patriots run gave George Mason a 57-43 lead with 5:31 left in regulation. George Mason held George Washington to just 33.3% (5-15) shooting from beyond the arc and outrebounded the Colonials by a 44-35 margin in the win. Leading the way for the Patriots was Jaire Grayer who had a double-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, George Mason is averaging 71.1 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Patriots are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 32.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, George Mason has been led by Otis Livingston II (16.9 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.5 apg), Jaire Grayer (13.5 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.5 spg), Justin Kier (10.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.4 spg), and Goanar Mar (10.1 ppg, 4.5 rpg). Defensively, George Mason is allowing their opponents to average 75.7 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Patriots have a rebound margin of 0.8 and a turnover margin of -2.0.
The Flyers are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up loss however, are just 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games. The Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record however, are just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games.
Dayton has dropped 3 of their last 4 games and although the Flyers offense has been decent as they rank 29th in FG% and 90th in three-pointers made per game, Dayton has struggled defensively as they currently rank just T-217th in scoring defense and 278th in defensive FG%. George Mason has lost 5 of their last 7 games and haven’t been impressive on either side of the ball this season as they rank just 251st in scoring offense and T-267th in scoring defense. Dayton has lost there is just 1-7 on the road this season, however, their last two road losses were in overtime against teams much better than George Mason and as I think the Flyers offense will have some success against the Patriots, I’m taking Dayton to cover this road spread.
