The Line: George Mason Patriots -3 -- Over/Under:
The George Washington Colonials will travel to EagleBank Arena to take on the George Mason Patriots this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The George Washington Colonials snapped their 4-game losing streak and improved to 10-14 (3-8 A-10) on the season after defeating the La Salle Explorers, 80-69, this past Wednesday. George Washington was strong on the defensive side of the ball against La Salle and pulled away in the 2nd half after a 10-0 Colonials run gave George Washington a 64-44 lead with 9:40 left in regulation. George Washington held La Salle to 38.7% shooting from the field and forced the Explorers into committing 17 turnovers in the win. Leading the way for the Colonials was Yuta Watanabe who had 29 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, George Washington is averaging 64.6 ppg on 42.7% shooting from the field. The Colonials are averaging 5.6 three-pointers per game on 30.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensviely, George Washington has been led by Yuta Watanabe (15.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.3 apg), Jair Bolden (11.7 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.0 apg), Patrick Steeves (10.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.2 apg), and Terry Nolan Jr. (9.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.5 spg). Defensively, George Washington is allowing their opponents to average 70.6 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Colonials have a rebound margin of -1.0 and a turnover margin of -1.2.
The George Mason Patriots dropped to 10-14 (4-7 A-10) on the season after being defeated by the Fordham Rams, 67-66, this past Wednesday. George Mason held a 33-23 halftime lead, however, struggled defensively in the 2nd half and allowed Fordham to pull away after the Rams took a 67-62 lead with 2:37 left in regulation. George Mason shot 39.7% from the field and committed 21 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Patriots was Otis Livingston II who had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals. On the season, George Mason is averaging 71.1 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Patriots are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 32.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, George Mason has been led by Otis Livingston II (17.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.3 apg), Jaire Grayer (13.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.6 spg), Justin Kier (10.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.4 spg), and Goanar Mar (10.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg). Defensively, George Mason is allowing their opponents to average 76.2 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Patriots have a rebound margin of 0.5 and a turnover margin of -2.3.
The Colonials are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record however, are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Patriots are 12-25-2 ATS in their last 39 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and just 3-9 ATS in their last 12 home games.
George Washington picked up a much needed win and has to be happy with their offensive performance against La Sale as the Colonials currently rank just 337th in scoring offense, 273rd in FG%, and 332nd in 3P-FG%. George Mason has lost 5 of their last 6 games and has struggled on both ends of the court this season as they Patriots come into this matchup ranked just 250th in scoring offense and 274th in scoring defense. George Washington has yet to win a game on the road this season however, I do think the Colonials defense will be able to give George Mason some trouble and as long as the Colonials get a big game out of Yuta Watanabe, I think the George Washington will cover with the points.
