The Dayton Flyers won their 4th straight game and improved to 9-5 (1-0 A-10) on the season after defeating the Richmond Spiders, 72-48, this past Sunday. Dayton made quick work of the Spiders and had no trouble securing the victory after an 11-0 run gave the Flyers a 27-12 lead with 2:38 left in the 1st half. Dayton shot 53.4% from the field while holding Richmond to just 29.5% shooting from the field & 28.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Flyers was Josh Cunningham who had a double-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Dayton is averaging 75.3 ppg on 51.3% shooting from the field. The Flyers are averaging 5.9 three-pointers per game on 30.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Dayton has been led by Josh Cunningham (16.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.1 apg), Jalen Crutcher (13.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 5.8 apg, 1.1 spg), Obadiah Toppin (13.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.3 apg), and Trey Landers (10.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 2.5 apg).
Defensively, Dayton is holding their opponents to an average of 67.7 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Flyers have a rebound margin of 4.4 and a turnover margin of -0.5.
The George Washington Colonials won their 2nd straight game and improved to 5-9 (1-0 A-10) on the season after upsetting the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, 70-56, this past Sunday. George Washington trailed by a 32-25 margin at halftime, however, dominated the Hawks on both ends of the court in the 2nd half and pulled away after a 13-0 Colonials run gave George Washington a 65-52 lead with just a minute left in regulation. George Washington shot 40.4% from the field while holding Saint Joseph’s to just 32.3% from the field & 17.9% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Colonials was Terry Nolan Jr. who had a double-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, and a steal.
On the season, George Washington is averaging 64.4 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field. The Colonials are averaging 5.9 three-pointers per game on 31.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, George Washington has been led by Terry Nolan Jr. (12.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.0 spg), DJ Williams (12.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.2 apg), Arnaldo Toro (10.1 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 1.4 spg), and Justin Mazzulla (9.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, George Washington is allowing their opponents to average 70.6 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Colonials have a rebound margin of -5.9 and a turnover margin of 0.5.
The Flyers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400, however, just 3-11-1 ATS in their last 15 games vs. A-10 opponents. The Colonials are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Dayton has won 5 of their last 7 games and has looked good this season as although they are just 1-4 agianst opponents currently ranked in the top-50 of the RPI standings, they were competitive in games agianst Virginia & Auburn, covering in both those match-ups. Dayton isn’t much of a threat from beyond the arc on the offensive end, however, has an efficient offense that ranks 6th in FG% and a defense that ranks 94th in scoring defense. George Washington pulled off their biggest win of the season agianst Saint Joseph’s and although they rank just 334th in scoring offense, 314th in FG%, and T-165th in scoring defense, they have been great ATS as of late.
As much as I want to believe that George Washington has turned a corner, I’m not buying it yet as this is the still the same team that has lost by an average of 15.8 ppg in their 9 losses. Dayton is a solid defensive team that will give the Colonials trouble on the boards and as I think their offensive depth will give George Washington trouble, I’m taking Dayton to cover this large road spread.
