The George Mason Patriots and the George Washington Colonials meet in A-10 college basketball action from the Charles E. Smith Center on Saturday afternoon.
The George Mason Patriots will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 71-36 rout at the hands of VCU gave the Patriots their 4th loss in their last 5 games. Jordan Miller led the Patriots with 11 points on 3 of 8 shooting with a 5 of 6 mark from the foul line while also grabbing 10 rebounds for the double-double as the only George Mason player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Justin Kier added 9 points and 5 rebounds but still leads the Patriots with an average of 14 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while Otis Livingston II leads George Mason in assists with 4.2 assists per game this season. As a team, George Mason is averaging 70.5 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 32.6% from behind the arc and 71.9% from the foul line this season.
The George Washington Colonials will look to rebound after losing 4 straight and 8 of their last 9 games following a 67-56 loss to Fordham last time out. Justin Mazzulla led the Colonials with 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting while Justin Williams added 11 points with 6 rebounds as the only other George Washington player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Javier Langarica added 8 points with a game-high 15 rebounds in the loss as well for the Colonials. DJ Williams was also held to just 8 points and 8 rebounds but still leads George Washington with an average of 14.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while Mazzulla leads the Colonials in assists with 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, George Washington is averaging 63.6 points per game on 40.8% shooting from the field, 31.5% from behind the arc and 68.5% from the foul line this season.
George Mason is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games while the over is 37-14 in their last 51 games following a loss. George Washington is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 home games against a team with a road winning percentage below .400. George Mason is 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
George Mason laying points on the road feels a bit odd considering how little success the Patriots have had in this matchup and how the Patriots have struggled against the number recently. However, there’s simply no backing George Washington as the Colonials continue to find creative ways to lose basketball games, and a double-digit loss to the last-place team in the conference isn’t going to do my confidence any favors. George Mason is due for an offensive breakout after being stifled by VCU, so I’ll lay the points with George Mason as more of a fade from George Washington than anything else.
