We have some A-10 college basketball action on Saturday afternoon as the VCU Rams take on the George Washington Colonials.
The VCU Rams will look to find some measure of consistency after splitting their last 12 games, including a 74-63 loss to Davidson in their last outing. Justin Tillman led the Rams with 22 points on 9 of 15 shooting with a team-high 8 rebounds, while De’Riante Jenkins added 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 5 triples as the only other VCU player to hit double figures in scoring in the loss. Jonathan Williams added 5 points with a team-high 7 assists in the losing effort for the Rams. Tillman leads VCU with an average of 19.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while Williams leads the Rams in assists with 5.7 assists per game this season. As a team, VCU is scoring 76.9 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field, 35.2% from behind the arc and 71.2% from the foul line this season.
The George Washington Colonials will also be looking to find some form of consistency play after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games, including an 83-72 road win over UMASS in their last outing. Patrick Steeves led GW with 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting with 12 rebounds for the double-double, while Yuta Watanabe came 2nd with 13 points with 3 triples, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. Terry Nolan Jr. and Jair Bolden tied for 3rd with 12 points apiece, with Nolan Jr. adding a team-high 6 assists and 3 steals. Arnaldo Toro added 11 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Colonials in the win. Watanabe leads George Washington with an average of 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while Bolden leads the Colonials in assists with 3 helpers per game this season. As a team, George Washington is scoring 65.3 points per game on 43.1% shooting from the field, 30.6% from behind the arc and 70.1% from the foul line this season.
VCU is 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 Saturday games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 road games. George Washington is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 home games. VCU is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
Neither of these two teams have been the definition of consistent lately. However, even though VCU has struggled on the road, George Washington has struggled against above average competition, failing to cover in any of their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. Not to mention that the Rams have had the bulk of the success when these two meet and we are getting a pretty low line as well, so I’ll lay the bucket on the road with VCU here.
