The Appalachian State Mountaineers and the Georgetown Hoyas meet in college basketball action from the Capital One Arena on Tuesday night.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers come into this game looking to bounce back after a 76-69 loss to South Florida in their last outing. Ronshad Shabazz led the Mountaineers with 29 points on 10 of 19 shooting with a pair of threes while Justin Forrest added 17 points with 3 triples as the only other Appalachian State player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Isaac Johnson added 6 points and a team-high 10 rebounds while Hunter Seacat added 5 blocks as well in the loss. Shabazz leads Appalachian State with an average of 19.3 points and 3.1 assists per game while Johnson leads the Mountaineers with 8.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Appalachian State is averaging 85.3 points per game on 48.5% shooting from the field, 37.3% from behind the arc and 67.8% from the foul line this season.
The Georgetown Hoyas will look to bounce back after back-to-back losses following an 81-73 loss to SMU in their last outing. Jessie Govan led the Hoyas with 17 points on 7 of 15 shooting while James Akinjo came right behind with 16 points with a 10 of 11 mark from the foul line and 7 rebounds and Mac McClung added 13 points to round off the trio of double-digit scorers for Georgetown in the loss. Josh LeBlanc added 9 points to match his team-high 9 rebounds in the losing effort for the Hoyas. Govan leads Georgetown with an average of 19.5 points and 8 rebounds per game while Akinjo leads the Hoyas in assists with 4.5 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgetown is scoring 78.4 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the arc and 75% from the foul line this season.
Appalachian State is 9-21-3 ATS in their last 33 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 non-conference games. Georgetown is 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games overall and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss while the over is 12-2 in their last 14 home games.
Anyone who has followed my college basketball work, knows that whenever I see Georgetown on the board, I usually fade the Hoyas immediately as Georgetown is simply a bad team in terms of covering and has issues covering and sometimes even winning against teams that they should beat handily. The Hoyas have failed to cover in any of their 3 games as a double-digit favorite at home this season, while Appalachian State’s two losses on the road have come by single-digits. I’ve won more than I’ve lost fading the Hoyas and that’s not going to change here, so I’ll take the points with Appalachian State in this one and maybe sprinkle a little something on the money line as well just for a shot.
