The Line: Georgetown University Hoyas -27 -- Over/Under: 149.5
The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks and Georgetown Hoyas meet Tuesday in college basketball action at the Capital One Arena.
The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks really have nowhere to go but up after winning a combined 21 games the last two seasons. The good news for Maryland-Eastern Shore is that this is a highly experienced team with no freshmen on the roster and majority of upperclassmen leading the way. Tyler Jones returns as the Hawks top player, as he averaged 12.1 points and five rebounds while shooting 41.8 percent from the field. Ahmad Frost is another double-digit scorer who grabbed three rebounds and dished out 2.4 assists in his first season of real playing time. The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks were at the bottom in almost any major category at both ends of the court last season, but maybe the experience and two key players returning will lead to more success. The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks haven’t won a road game since February in 2017.
The Georgetown Hoyas showed flashes last season in the first year under coach Patrick Ewing, and they hope to be more consistent in his second season. The Hoyas should be in good shape with the return of center Jessie Govan, who was a walking double-double last season and can really takeover games. Guards Jamorko Pickett and Jahvon Blair combined for 18.6 points and 3.5 assists while Kaleb Johnson brings senior leadership and rebounds very well for his position. Georgetown also brings in freshmen Josh LeBlanc and James Akinjo, two players who were widely considered four-star recruits and could make an impact right away. The Georgetown Hoyas have the potential to be a serious threat in the Big East this season and make a run for a spot in the big dance for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The Georgetown Hoyas have lost four of their last five home games.
The Hoyas are 11-27 ATS in their last 38 home games, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Tuesday games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The over is 6-1 in Hoyas last 7 overall and the under is 12-3-1 in Hawks last 16 overall.
If the Georgetown Hoyas are going to make that jump this season and reach the big dance, they should have no trouble winning this game in blowout fashion. The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks don't have the athletes to compete and have been brutal on the road over the years.
